re: Long way to go this year

How did that 300+ a game rush work against bama last year? We can't just run 40 times a game and hope that we can pass downfield when we need to against a stingy defense.
We need to develop chemistry in real game situations between Mett and the receivers so that when we need a first down on 3&12 that they have confidence it can be done.
----------------------------------
I really believe this is Miles goal. Run it as much as possible and HOPE we can complete a pass here and there. Did it look like Bama was hoping in the national championship? No, because teams that are properly prepared don't need to hope, it's second nature.
Who here has confidence that on 3rd and 6 or 8 LSU can get a 1st down passing? Even against North Texas? Not me. But frick, let's keep running bubble screens. Do you know how easy it is to defend us when we play 3 yards and a cloud of dust all day and mix in a bubble screen? It puts 11 defenders on the line of scrimmage and makes all 11 guys on offense have to make a perfect play.

It's been like 5 years since we had a 300+ yard passing game.
Me thinks this is not because of our playcalling, but much rather the suck assness of our QB play. Or maybe I'm just dumb and Lee and Jefferson were actually Brady and Manning, in which case I am wrong and it is obvious, based on the last four years, that our coaches suck and need to be fired.

Either that or go pull for OregonHow bout we go get Oregon's coach and keep Chavis.

One thing that I think we missed was ware's ability to pass block.
Blue and hillard are better runners at this time it appears but they lack in pass protection.
I think we didn't throw many deep routes because of the early pressure that was applied to mett when he needed time for longer pass routes to develop.
We stuck to fast developing pass plays because miles was worried about protection.
Once the protection issues have been addressed and mett gets more time in the pocket, the longer routes will be called more frequently and our passing yardage will increase.
You can't throw the ball deep down field unless you have qb protection for the length of time needed for the receivers to get down field.
It's simple, once the pass blocking gets better, miles will be more comfortable with calling deeper routes. Miles arse puckered when mett took that big hit. I don't blame him for shorting the amount of time needed for mett to have pass protection.

My biggest concern is that our pathetic Linebacker recruiting, until last year, is starting to really show up in a bad way. Bama will exploi the hell out of this weakness. Maybe some of our freshmen can step up?

bingo
oregon doesn't hide the play book against anyone
neither does bama or usc
they run their offense and get good it it

This team is going to look completely different by the time they play Alabama tbh. It's early season football. It was sloppy and uninspired for most of the game. They'll grow a LOT by the time November gets here.

Pass blocking looked suspect and still not completely sold on the cb's yet....Geaux Tigers

"I'm sure the game plan will be the same as this one vs North Texas, right??? And the same game plan tonight will be installed for South Carolina and Arkansas as well"
It has in the past, why would it change if you can run for 300 yards right? And then all of the sudden you meet the team you can't run for 300 yards on and find out your fricked. And the worst part is you try it against that team a second time and find out yep you're still fricked.

Why not season the QB.
His 1st start he threw the ball 26 times. And he missed time due to injury. Are you fricking retarded?

CLM would rather play it 3 yards and a cloud of dust
Did you actually watch the game? 3 yards and a cloud of dust would have had us up 35-0 at halftime. Our coaches actually tried to work on stuff in the 1st half, getting Mett and our WRs involved in the offense. Again, are you fricking retarded?

But if a run heavy attack does not get us tom the promise land and a win than CLM should be the goat.
This is too fricking stupid to even decipher

iMO he should instill confidence in his offense's ability to throw the ball.
Our starting QB THREW THE BALL 26 MOTHERfrickING TIMES!!!!!!

but hell I'm not the head coach.
Thank God. I'm not sure you're smart enough to actually breathe.

But I'm gonna quit ranting about it now and hope and pray we do something different against Washington. Hopefully they put some points up on us and it forces Miles to do something although I have a feeling their defense will be so porous will stick to the same gameplan.

Very happy with the game. Only a few concerns that will be ironed out no doubt.
Didn't like Reid jumping that ball and getting burned for 80 yards - although I'm sure he feels worse than I do. Didn't like the second drive on which NT scored. Really frustrated at the missed TD opportunities at the end of the first half. Scratching my head at the entire 3rd quarter. HATED the play calling of passes that would require dives to the far side of the flats.
Line is STOUT. LBs are learning. Corners getting their sea-legs again. Return game will be gem.
We'll be fine.

Strongly disagree.
Apparently everyone on the rant likes to compare LSU to Alabama, so let's see how they stacked up tonight.
Both scores were 41-14.
Mett: 19/26 192yds 1-td 1-int
McCarron: 11/21 199yds 2-tds 0-int
Both teams ran 2/3 of the time. I understand Alabama played Michigan and we played NT, but to be fair, Michigan isn't known for having a great pass defense and Mett was starting his first CFB game ever. The fact remains that both these teams are extremely strong run-first teams. The difference is now the QB we have is able to hit the throws downfield when needed.

just keep running it
maybe it'll work against bama this year

"So you think that was because of offensive philosophy or the fact that we didn't have a QB that could make the throws when needed?"
Yes we had mediocre QB's but I've watched LSU under Les Miles long enough to know Les is part of the problem. We had these same type games when Jamarcus was QB and in 2007 with Flynn at QB it was a requirement for us to be trailing by 10-14 points in the second half against good teams before Les would get off his arse and do something about it.

You said Mett would throw 15 times. He threw 26. And let's be honest, he due to his injury, played less than you thought he would. Face it, you don't know what the frick you are talking about. But please keep acting like you do. It is quite fricking entertaining.
