My parents live about 2 miles west of the Tangipahoa River off HWY 190 in Hammond. Can anyone with knowledge of the situation tell me if they should be ok? Talked to my Dad earlier and he is not concerned. He said the flood in 1983 was partially caused by the I-12 construction that was going on at the time. Plus the dam in question is about 45 miles north of them. It is hard for me to fathom Hammond being affected even in a worse case scenario.

Will be fine. wwwltv.com has Jindal live presser. From what I understood the mandatory evac is a half mile around the dam.

That is incorrect. They have a mandatory evacuation for Kentwood, Tangiophoa, Roseland, Amite, Independence, Loranger, and Robert. All areas along the Tangipohoa river. A mile on each side of the river.
