I understand that people have family and friends there and I know that can be a big pull, but beyond that, there's no reason that can be given that isn't better somewhere else.

But hey, that's just like my opinion, man.

You're absolutely correct. family is the ONLY thing that has kept me from moving to Colorado.

That's why nobody lives there full time, and what insurance is for.

The way you come across sure is mad. Did your high school sweetheart move to LA or something?

If you understand the risks, what's the point of this thread?

Debatable. And subjective.

To find out why people live in Louisiana. I thought I made that clear with the first line in the OP.

I can understand being born and growing up there and family being around. But what a hassle you people have to deal with seemingly all the time regarding Hurricanes.

Well that's just it then. It only seems that way to you. In reality there's really on a major Hurricane once ever 5 closer to 10 years and here in Lafayette I'm far enough inland to where it's really no big deal.

I've been here my whole life and we've never had any damage from a Hurricane. Not any blown out windows, no trees falling on my home. Not even really any major flooding except with Andrew that I remember and that was 20 years ago.

The worst that happens is I'll lose power for a day or two. Really Hurricanes are no big deal unless you live right on the coast. If you're as far inland as Lafayette it's no problem at least that's been my life's experience.

No, it's not clear. The only thing clear is that you're insinuating that we're stupid for living in a state that is prone to natural disasters as if Georgia isn't.

I dig watching TWC people get in the streets in wind gust to 80mph and try to stand up and report to Yankee people "see, this is what its all about"..they definitely live a very boring life!...we are used to this stuff, they make it more overblown than you can imagine!...

Its not so much Louisiana. It's if you live on the coast or not. I used to live near the coast in a city that's getting slammed right now. I moved an hour north and I am seeing a fraction of what I used to. My insurance rates went down and I no longer have to board up my windows for every storm anymore. We didn't move solely because of the hurricane threat but it was one factor. If you live in the Baton Rouge area trust me its much better than closer to the coast.

So next you need to write a post about Savanah, Georgia and ask them why they are so stupid for building a big historic town right on the coast. I mean who could be so ignorant? Oh that's right nobody lives their fulltime its just a beachtown nobody lives their permanantly right?

Left because of weather??? Where do suggest we go that doesn't have weather? There are droughts, tornados, blizzards, floods, hurricanes, earth quakes, volcanos, tsunamis ....

Because I was born here. My family is here. I got my bachelors and masters here (left the state to do my doctorate). I have a damned decent professional level job here. I love LSU. I love Toledo Bend. Most of all, LA is one big fricking party year round. I enjoy visiting other states, but LA can party. That's coming from someone in their late 50's. Let's get it own.

Not where I live! I mean we have extreme heat and the occasional dust storm(which looks WAYYY worse on tv than it actually it). But nothing you would need to ever evacuate for.
