I heard Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel is the Ed Hockily of meteorologist.

Any truth to this?

Power officially out in LV...forced to play drinking games by candlelight...neighbors bird bath slowly overflowing and a puddle in their yard we're keeping our eye on...coors light at critical mass, only one case remaining...prayers are welcomed but absolutely not necessary

Question: I have been in Louisiana through a lot of hurricanes. Besty, Andrew and Gustav eyes all passed over my house, although Betsy was actually my parents' house. Those storms were bad. But here, I keep hearing about 75 and 80 mph sustained winds but when the TV shows the locations and the wind measurements, everyone seems to be showing sustained winds far lower than the NHC is calling. Why is that? Seems like it was the opposite for Gustav and Andrew, where weather people seemed to say the winds were less than the local gages showned. I kept hearing Gustav was only about 60 but here, it was worse than Betsy and only outdone by Andrew.

Sorry I can't stay here to discuss, but power is out at home as is the internet. I came into the office to check on the place and checked the internet while I was here. Need to get back home before it gets worse. I will look for answers on my cell phone. Thanks.

Prayers and wishes to all affected. I got a foot of water in my house on Ft Morgan. I was lucky enough to have most everything moved. I will get an insurance check for new floors and walls. It doesnt look like it will make it up to the second story.

lost power in old metairie this morning around 10. hung out at the house until about 2:00 when the wife and i made an attempt at crossing the crescent city connection to the safety of the west bank only to retreat with our tails between our legs. made our second attempt with great success at 4:00. we are now at the wife's parents generator powered office in harvey having a party.

I'm in uptown Nola. I've been without power for almost 24 hours now. I haven't had any contact with the outside world. Can't reach family. House has a good bit of damage. Just turned on my car to charge my phone to post real quick. Can someone give me an update for the area? When will this rain and high winds calm down? Are there curfews? Can I drive? Talk of evacuations? Any bars open? Any deaths? Areas I should avoid? I'm assuming tulane and loyola cancelled classes until Monday? When is this slow storm supposed to pass me over? Just looking for any info I can get. Phone service goes in and out and I'm low on battery. Thanks and everyone stay safe.
