Not sure how you came to that conclusion by my question. I meant like a spicy burger; I've heard of ppl coating in coffee grounds, jerk burgers, things like that.

Sounds like FB doesn't use all those things you are looking for that ruin a great homemade hamburger.

I would leave the beef alone. Take the advice of the others. It should be beefy with no fillers. Salt and pepper are all that you need.
Try to infuse the spice you want in the condiments. A cajun mustard, a homemade spicy mayonnaise, aolli, or even some homemade canned pickles.
The buns are another area that you can work with. Kaiser rolls, sourdough, and a crunchy french roll are some options.
Of course different cheeses and mushrooms are a welcome addition to a good burger.
I suggested hamburger steak because you asked for sides. A good burger is like a good pizza, everything is already on there. To me, even fries and onion rings are overkill. The bun is quite a few tasty, but nasty carbs. Why add more? The hamburger steak meal replaces this with some rice or mashed potatoes, and goes well with a green veggie.

Well I suppose you could just use a good Jamaican Jerk Rub in lieu of salt and pepper then

I've sometimes made a sirracha-mayo thats awesome on a burger. Just mix mayonnaise and sirracha and maybe a tsp of roasted garlic, and chill for about an hour. Start out low on the sirracha and add more as needed to taste
