Anybody gonna check this out? I saw it at a festival and it was pretty damn bad arse. John Hillcoat is the man.

Maybe I've just missed it but this movie seems to have very little buzz for such a star-studded cast.

Didn't love this movie. It was very watchable, but had a choppy, probably-had-too-much-left-on-the-cutting-room-floor story. What was there was cool, but I wanted learn more about some shite.

- Hardy's great as usual, plays a thoughtful, surprisingly humourous badass
- Shia was really good, only second thing I've ever seen him in
- Pearce, while unique, was almost distracting, and too sneering as the villain
- Much less action than I thought, but that didn't bother me
- Climax was anti-climactic, and I thought was just kinda "sure, ok."
- Could've gone much deeper with female leads and their interactions...pretty stock characters.
- Hillcoat just has an awesome eye, and makes his worlds so real

I'd recommend this movie as something to see, especially if you like all the talent involved, but I think it wouldn't satisfy your average movie fan. The Proposition is a much better collaboration between Hillcoat and Cave.

I really enjoyed the movie. Hardy was great. He made it worth a watch alone.

...I agree that Pearce maybe was a little distracting. Also, the climax was a little strange and anti-climactic.

Loved the humor.

Labeef was surprisingly good though I couldn't take him serious as a badass. He just doesn't have the look. I liked Hardy and Pearce. Jessica Chastain didn't have much to do but she looked good. The movie had a lighter tone than I was expecting but still very enjoyable.

This was from the same director of The Proposition and The Road. Those are some bleak as hell movies. Lawless was much lighter than either of those.

Yes, I know.

To be fair, those two make United 93 look light. And yeah, Lawless actually aimed for some light hearted moments...some.

Laboeuf has really gone off the deep-end lately, similar to Tom Cruise a few years ago, so it is hard for me to watch him in anything going forward.

Loved it. I'm a huge Nick Cave fan, so seeing it opening weekend was a must. I was glad they didn't try to fit in an awkward cameo for him after his appearance in Assassination of Jesse James served as that movie's most embarrassing moment.

I was expecting something comparable to The Proposition. But I think Lawless fell short of that standard for story immersion. I struggled to find the story's need for the lady cast as Tom Hardy's love interest. If the story was told as a character study, then her purpose becomes clearer as the climax approaches. Tom Hardy with Hillcoat and Cave's assistance definitely put a new spin on what could have been a cliched tough guy role in anyone else's hands. Shia LaBeouf exceeded my expectations as a kid viewed with low expectations that needed to grow up. His growing up was awkward, but necessary for this character.

Not 5 stars, but I'll give it 4. It was worth seeing.

Did it not bother anybody else how big of a pussy Labeef's character was? All he did the whole movie was get beat up, pushed around, and cry a lot.

To be fair, the scene where he first encounters Rakes, I probably would've cried too. It didn't bother me that he was a pussy, he bothered me cuz he was an idiot. Seemed like everything he did, put his family in jeopardy.
