Why Guilbeau? Because he is a Gannett New Service writer which is national in scope. His stuff ends up in USA Today which is owned by Gannett. The reason is a national audience. Everybody else around the country thinks the SEC is dirty so Guilbeau provides a natiowide outlet for PR and that's why Bahnsen talks to him. Guilbeau provides a potentially bigger audience outside the region to people who don't follow LSU. Not that people read the paper anymore anyway, but that's why Guilbeau because he can reach more people. It's PR on a national level.
This isn't a slight at Kleinpeter and NOLA.COM, and The Advocate which are owned by New Orleans Net LLC and Capital City Press LLC perspectively, but they are regional in scope. They aren't going to have the national audience that Gannett has. Tyrann or sources close to him to chose a national outlet in ESPN to air his side and LSU used a national outlet in Gannett (Guilbeau) to get their side out. Dueling news media outlets on a national level.

But that's the thing, LSU didn't do anything. Bo Bahnsen has never been the voice of LSU in regards to compliance issues or anything else student athlete related. All of a sudden he comes out the woodwork? The whole situation is weird and gets crazier by the minute.
