Best beginner electric guitar and amp?

I'm sure this has been discussed before.
Just started playing acoustic about a year ago. Besides the guitar/amp/accessories packs out there, what would you recommend? Not interested in playing metal.
Thanks

How much are you willing to spend?

I'd go with a strat. For an amp, I'd go with something with a 12" speaker.

That's a nice looking guitar.
Are Ibanez better than Epiphone?

In my opinion, no. However, when you buy guitars, you get (for the most part) exactly what you pay for. The more you spend, the better product you'll get.

You really need to play the guitar you are going to buy. They are not all created equally. Also plan to spend some money to get it checked out at your local music store. They can grind frets, adjust the action, adjust pickup position etc. Great investment especially for a beginner.

I started with an epiphone SG that I got got 400$. But looking back now I wish I would have bought a cheap strat or an Ibanez

Jazz, blues and classic rock mostly...or eventually, still learning.

Would be my advice as well. For Blues/jazz... you cannot go wrong with a Strat. Incredibly versatile guitar.
Can probably find a good deal on one as well.

the better a guitar & amp feels and sounds, the more inspired someone is to play.

check online classifieds for a used peavey classic 30 combo. these amps have very good clean & overdrive channels. excellent reverb too. they're versatile & would cover those types of music.
not sure what model it is, but peavey makes a nice playing semi hollow similar to the ibanez pictured above.
the ibanez artcore semi hollow is also a nice guitar for the money. great deals can be found online if you're patient and are willing to look for them.

i picked up a new VHT classic 6 on ebay for $200 pp/s. it's one of the better cheap amps i've played, and at 6 watts you can crank it. then pick up a used mexi strat or tele, or maybe you can find a decent used korean epiphone. You'll probably want to pick up a used tube screamer or some other dirt box if you go this route, but you'll never outgrow this setup...

Go to guitar center and play a few amps. I would understand how pickups work and play each amp with several different guitars...and ignore all the idiot employees!
I wouldn't buy a lower end tube amp, especially used. Tube amps sound great cranked, but like shite on lower volumes. I would stick to a solid state (non-tube) amp, unless you increase your budget or buy it out of some dudes van.

And not to knock anyone here, but I would do more playing than research on a forum.

if your budget is low, just go to a pawn shop, or guitar center and get a used guitar. whichever one feels good in your hands. invariably, you will hold some nostalgia no matter which one you pick, so get it cheap and get it over with.
for an amp, most solid state amps are over priced, especially beginner amps. its easier to find keyboard and bass amps for cheap, get one of those. i hear that fender bronco amp is really good for the money, check ebay and snag one of those if its the cheapest. just dont spend any inflated amount on your first practice amp, it will be the one piece of gear that will immediately be thrown away for a new one.
once you have something under 300 that makes music, immediately set your sights on what you really want. write that model number down on an envelope and begin shoveling money into it. get EXACTLY the guitar/amp that makes you smile before you go to sleep. its something you might never sell in your lifetime so be honest with yourself and dont skimp by going one model lower to get it three months earlier. if you want a mesa/boogie and a les paul... get it. it might take a year to save up, but you will never regret it.
