You keep saying this but haven't said what he should have done to "instill discipline". It's ridiculous and you already bash miles for everything else anyway.

Well, let's think this through step by step. We know that TM was suspended last season for violation of team rules. We know at that point the staff should have been on notice of the fact that he was a potential disciplinary problem. The staff certainly should have recognized he was one of our best defensive players. Hence, by the week of the Auburn game last season, the staff knew that one of its most important players was a potential disciplinary problem. We now know that approximately ten months later, Mathieu committed some other rules violation and was dismissed as a result. Hence, we can conclude without any doubt that whatever steps the staff took to try to instill discpline and ensure compliance between last year's suspension and this year's dismissal FAILED. Whatever those steps were, they FAILED.

Now why should the staff be showered with acclaim for failing to instill discipline in one of its most important players? That escapes me.

P.S. I don't "bash" Miles for everything. I have bashed him for the pathetic showing in the NCG, which he deserved. Similarly, he deserves some blame for repeated disciplinary problems within his own program.

I've read some of your posts in the past and you're certainly one of the more thoughtful posters on TD (in spite of the flak you're getting now).

But I just don't think a coach can screen prospects on the front end or exercise control during their on-campus time to gurantee that no one will ever wander off the reservation. IMO, that's an unrealistic expectation.

What's happened ain't good. But how we (LSU) are responding is commendable.
