I can't believe that anyone actually thinks that the NCAA was within their authority to issue these penalties for something that does not have anything to do with player eligibility or following the NCAA rules.

Actually, quite a few people feel like the NCAA was within its bounds to apply the sanctions. It's a voluntary organization & its executive committee, made up of 18 university presidents, made the decision after obtaining several legal opinions from its attorneys. The words "lack of institutional control" can cover a wide variety of violations. Obviously, many disagree as well, but there are quite a few who do agree 100%.

You mean like covering up a sexual abuse scandal that if let out would have negatively affected recruiting? Are you naive enough to think that had news of this broken sooner, it would have made some recruits think twice about going there?

College Football teams are brands. Anything that negatively affects the brand affects recruiting.
