So as expected the first team offense comes out and makes things look easy. Brees had minimal pressure on his only drive of the night, and the running game and PT looked lights out. The defense came onto the field and I'm not going to sugar coat anything, I was a little nervous at first. I have said multiple times that Malcolm Jenkins has been around every play in practice but always seems to be just a little late and misses the chance to make a play on the ball. On the third play from ARI's offense, Jenkins made the correct read on a mix-up route and times his jump and catch perfectly. If he can stay healthy Malcolm Jenkins could be on the verge of his biggest year as a Saint.

I have been looking at posts through out the whole game, and it seems that everyone is nervous about Chase Daniel. Yes, he is no Drew Brees, but I do believe he is the right QB for this system to backup Brees as this time. He looked a little shaky at first but made some nice throws downfield once he got into a groove. I did notice that the offensive play calling was very vanilla which is to be expected for a pre-season game. Daniel showed nice touch on flat routes and "jump" passes. His best throw of the night was a middle of the field throw during the 2 minute offense to Tanner. If you go back and look at the play, Daniel threw a gorgeous ball between two defenders and hit Tanner right between the numbers.

I thought the biggest disappointments of the night were Chris Ivory and the second team O-line. I do not believe Ivory would have done that much better witht he first team, as it seemed like he was a rookie trying to find his footing. He ran straight into defenders on every other play and seemed hobbled after numerous plays.

Martez Wilson had a great night. He is very fast and came alive undert he bright lights. He has looked good in practice, but I mentioned I didnt think he was utilizing his tools as a LB to enhance his D-line capabilities. He did exactly what I predicted and used the thrill of live game action to bring out the hybrib D-lineman he is destined to be.

The player of the night was rookie RB Travaris Cadet. I said he would be the one player to watch in this game and pre-season, and he did not make me look bad. He was electrifying at RB and on special teams. Ive said it once before and I still strongly believe he is going to make it very hard for the Orginization to cut him.

I was wrong about how much playing time Luke McCown was going to get. I have heard a lot about the Saints wanting to solidify the QB position behind Brees and plan for a QB3 or a plan if Brees and Daniel should go down over the first two pre-season agmes. I think Canfield has shown he is unreliable as an option to lead a strong offense. McCown should see more reps in Camp after a poor performance by Canfield.

Adrian Arrington is said to have a meniscus issue with his knee and flew to see Dr. Andrews on Sunday. Further Details coming soon....

There seems to be a little bit of confusion between the Saints and Patriots on when their joint practices will being. The pats have everything listed as Tuesday but the Saints are under the impression of Monday. If Monday is the correct date the practice is scheduled for 9-11AM. Little note, report out of Pats camp is Tom Brady has looked sloppy the last couple of days. On Thursday in practice, the 2 minute offense looked so bad Tom Brady walked off the field while yeling "What the F*** are we doing?". Things should get interesting over the next few days.

He did have a great game. It will be interesting to see what the team does going forward. We can't keep 5 RB's on the active roster, but he certainly looked like he deserves to be on the team.
I have always like Ivory since his breakout rookie camp, but Cadet certainly seems like he could be a better fit for this offense with his catching ability

agree on Ivory....he ran straight for the pile, his style I know but it was like he gravitated towards the knot of defenders every run.

i was thinking last nite that ivory has maybe two more years on a contract. we can keep cadet and let ivory test the market. cause ivory is the backup to ingram and we could groom cadet as a thomas clone when thomas wears down. the offense does need a pounder but ingram was drafted to be that type of back. sporles is a weapon just by himself so we have to keep him. cadet has my attention he is someone that can help a team out.

Agree that the second team o-line was hot garbage but I'm not so down with Ivory.
I don't see how we put Cadet on the P.S. to be picked up by another team. He looks legit.
With Arrington down the WR battles will only get hotter.

Roby and Shanle
Still getting work done for the Saints.
Someone please beat these guys out. Please step up and make them expendable.
Anyone?

Can I be pissed that he's not bacon yet?

And I wish they would have let Hartley try that 54 yarder.

Cadet showed his hands coming across and catching a late thrown ball right at the line. Very fast reflexes. Very nice catch on it. He was on fire

Haven't ever seen enough from Canfield to make me think he's a viable developmental player. However he is PS eligible and McCown not. It has been few times if any in the Payton era of carrying 3 QBs on the 53. Seems like it would take a huge Daniel failure and McCown shine for him to stay IMO.

Rock and a hard place. I say McCown gets third string the next game so we can actually see him perform. I've never seen anything from Canfield that's impressed me.
