Taking full advantage of the August Coolinary menus. Here is our lineup:
Fri night: St. Marie
Sat lunch: Mr. B's
Sat dinner: Brightsen's
Sun lunch: Galatoire's
What are the must - have dishes to try ? I have been dieting all week so I can go crazy.

FYI Galatoire's Coolinary menu is only from 5-10pm.

I think Mr. B's BBQ shrimp are even better than Pascal's !
Pascal's have no flavor and are floating mostly in oil, so yes, this is very true by miles and miles.
I don't think you can go wrong with anything at Galatoire's, but I really enjoy their oysters rock, the traditional New Orleans fish dishes, soft shell crab and the banana bread pudding.

Friend went to Galatoire's last weekend. Said it's the most overrated restaurant in the city. Didn't enjoy one thing he ate. And he was there for 4 hours. They ordered pretty much everything on the menu.

Taste bud issues or too drunk. The food is very good. The experience is outstanding if you do it correctly.

I respect his opinion on food more than anyone I know save one guy. And the other guy doesn't like Galatoire's either.
I acknowledge I should go and see for myself though.

I could see somebody saying that if they go in expecting something like Root or Stella or even August but Galatoire's is totally different from them. While I can understand not being blown away there, saying the food isn't good is pretty unbelievable.

Well I should clarify .. he didn't necessarily say the food was bad, just that he could get the same quality of dishes at a place like Joey K's. Just wasn't blown away I guess.
Perhaps some had to do with the level of expectation.

Send him to Brennans if you wants to see the real meaning of this statement.

I have not.
I find that astonishing. Anyways, don't go expecting a meal along the lines of Bayona or August. Go with a big group on Friday for lunch, get hammered, and enjoy it for what it is. Food's very good IMO if overpriced (comes with the territory) and the experience is second to none in terms unique New Orleans

Galatoire's prices are pretty reasonable.
