Now you understand how I feel about TDKR
No, I don't. Because while I don't think The Godfather Part III is in the same league as the other two films, I still like it and try not to nitpick at simple things that wouldn't happen in real life.
I also have the first two Godfather films in my Top 10 whereas the closest Batman film - The Dark Knight - is probably not even in my Top 30.

So...you agree with me then

The Godfather Part III is a good film
Well this is an opinion. Most people not only dislike part 3, but hate it. Critically, it received a very mixed reception.
It has everything to do with expectations IMO - if the Godfather III were a stand alone movie people probably wouldn't judge it harshly IMO. They would consider it a nice film but not amazing.
In my case I loved the first Godfather immensely but felt like the second was a lesser quality movie that really did disappoint me when I saw it. I would not have felt that way if I didn't love the first one as much as I did.

I agree with you that The Godfather Part III isn't as good as the first two films. But comparing The Godfather Trilogy to The Dark Knight Trilogy is like comparing Issac Newton to your local village idiot. The first two Godfather films can make a case for being the greatest movie of all-time. None of the Batman films Nolan made are even in that debate.

I've never made a top ten list. All I know is would include The Wizard of Oz, TDK, Aliens, Empire Strikes Back, godfather part II and American Psycho
Just my favorites

Is LOTR really a trilogy or just one movie split into three parts?

I regard it as one movie split into three parts but others will call it a trilogy. I won't argue with them because they are just as right as I am.
And as for my Top 10. This is how it goes:
1. Schindler's List
2. The Godfather Part II
3. Saving Private Ryan
4. United 93
5. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
6. Apollo 13.
7. Glory
8. Jaws
9. The Godfather
10. Star Wars

well it's based on a book that came in 3 volumes which correspond to the names of the 3 films so I'm pretty sure it's a trilogy.
if that doesn't suffice, then here's an easier explanation. The word trilogy means:
quote:
a set of three works of art that are connected, and that can be seen either as a single work or as three individual works

Indeed it is. I was completely blown away by that film. It is probably the most accurate film that has been made about 9/11 to date and it is one that I would show my students in the future when we reach the subject of the 9/11 attacks.

I don't know how people can narrow things down to top ten lists. Comparing things like comedies, documentaries, dramas, fantasy/sci fi is the definition of trying to compare apples and oranges
I guess people are different? Can you really compare your favorite documentary with your favorite comedy or drama?

I don't think I can name a single comedic movie that I would even put on my list if I ranked my favorite movies all the way to 50. The only pure comedic films that I ever remember laughing my arse off to are Caddyshack, Stripes, Animal House, and Airplane.
ETA: I would definitely put Dr. Strangelove in my Top 50 if I made one. It's not a pure comedic movie, but it's close enough.

Agreed. If I every made a top ten it would be my favorite movies not what film I think is better
I'm sure airplane isn't a better film than ordinary people, but guess which one has stood the test of time.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. But IMO you could make a list of dozens of comedies that should be considered some of the best films (of any type) ever made.

I'm sure you could but I don't watch too many comedic films. I have a great sense of humor but, ironically enough, I never got into the comedy genre.
