quote:
The NCAA will announce "corrective and punitive measures" for Penn State on Monday morning, it said in a statement Sunday. Emmert will reveal the sanctions at 9 a.m. ET in Indianapolis
quote:
Penn State will not receive the so-called "death penalty" that would have suspended the program for at least one year
quote:
The penalties, however, are considered to be so harsh that the death penalty may have been preferable
quote:LINK
The NCAA is taking unprecedented measures with the decision to penalize Penn State without the due process of a Committee on Infractions hearing.
quote:
"Unprecedented" penalties against both the Penn State University football team and the school.
quote:
"I've never seen anything like it"
quote:LINK
The fine will be at least $30 million, and perhaps as much as $60 million, for the university's involvement in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.
quote:
The move will mark a first in NCAA history, in which the president will invoke a defense of the NCAA's constitution as part of his reasoning for taking the unprecedented steps
quote:
Emmert is expected to detail that the action is backed by a special provision allowing such a step if he receives approval from the NCAA's board of directors.
quote:
The NCAA is prepared to defend the lack of an investigation by focusing on the Freeh Report, and Emmert's determination that the report provided actionable evidence.
quote:
Article 2.4 of the NCAA's constitution, excerpt: "for intercollegiate athletics to promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society, student-athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletics programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty and responsibility. These values should not only be manifest in athletics participation, but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program."
quote:
Penn State has been apprised of the process and is likely onboard with having the NCAA handle the case in this manner.
quote:LINK
Penn State will have limited options for an appeal.

Speculation:
Burn every building down with Sandusky and the BOTs locked inside. Throw Jay Paterno's delusional prick arse strapped to Joe's statue in there as fire kindling.

We need a list of previous NCAA smackdowns so we can speculate properly.
When it comes to punishments for anything, the term "unprecedented" translates to "not good."

Regardless of whether or not they should do it, isn't it too early for sanctions?
This will be very interesting to see.

Bye bye Penn State football

The NCAA is a joke. Emmert is a pompous arse, and should leave any punitive measures to the legal system. WTF do the people currently at Penn State as opposed to the real "guilty parties" need to suffer any sort of indignity for? It's tantamount to punishing children for the sins of the father.
Stupid. The sooner the NCAA dies in a fire, the better.

This is the equivalent of black people wanting reparations from people that had nothing to do with anything that happened.
The current players don't deserve punishment.

Unprecedented?
That's even bigger than precedented. And the death penalty is precedented.

I agree that this is a NCAA issue. You had the "most powerful" people at a university ignore common sense because they were taking orders from a football coach. The football coach was so selfish in his concern for his own football program's image that he protected and harbored a child predator. The current state of denial from the fans of the Penn St football team show the need for the death penalty.

What a bunch of buffoons...this NCAA. So these clowns announcing Monday.
I guess they don't have to do any investigation, the Freeh report is now Gospel. Sometimes this country sucks when it comes to due process and emotion.
We still like public lynchings.

quote:Perhaps they feel, as I do, that the entire culture, attitude, and way of doing things at Penn State is so fricked that there's no hope for rehabilitation; the entire system just needs to be burned. I'd equate it to denazification and the concept of collective guilt.
