My guess is that they are hoping that as this sinks in, those fans, like the ones you see camping out, will come to their senses. It would make the removal easier and not end with a possible violent outcome. It needs to go before the official start of the fall semester because there's no way they want a thousand students out there being idiots and following the crowd.

Absolutely. They need to do it at a time when there wouldnt be as much attention to it as now, either in support of it or against it.
