I'm looking for suggestions on the best places to stay, what to do while in town, best area to tailgate, where the safe drinking
areas are and any other useful information? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Anything North of Florida Boulevard.

Look at hotels on Constitution Ave, that's all I can think of off the top of my head.
Depends on what you like. There's the mall on Cortana, but I would very highly recommend going to Parrain's. I love that place for dinner. The fried crab fingers are awesome.
Pretty much anywhere around the stadium.
Are you looking to visiting for a particular game or just asking in general?

Yeah I was serious. If he's coming with a group of guys then cut out the mall.
Parrain's is great. And this is coming from someone who isn't a seafood person. If he wants to spend a bunch of money but at a more formal place, go to Juban's.
The tailgating thing, it's all around the stadium. If there's grass, there's a tailgate.
But I'm open for suggestions as sure as the OP is, what do you suggest?

Quit giving him bullshite. Dude came here for some help and you're going to feed him a load of crap like that? Not cool.
OP, there are some very nice motels off of Plank Road that are relatively close to campus and are going to put you in a much better part of the city than the crap la_birdman is feeding you. Also, a good place to visit is Cortana Mall off of Airline/Florida. Very nice mall with some really nice shops in there and usually a couple great deals around this time of the year.
Trust me, there are some parts of the city you don't even want to think about, and all the shite he suggested sticks you in the heart of gangster paradise.

ETA: Just realized you said Cortana too. Okay, so I agree with ONE of birdman's suggestions.

Pardon?
I'm speaking from experience. I don't live in BR but I've never had any trouble at any of the places I suggested.
He could do a whole lot worse. Granted, I don't know my way around BR a whole lot but I hardly think I directed him to gangster's paradise.
No need to be a jerk about it. Why all the hate?

Seems that way. But should we really expect any less?

Perhaps they should include directions to Earl K. Long hospital just in case he does get caught by a stray bullet.

Staring Inn, they have a great continental breakfast with fresh beignets and cafe au laits

can't tell if you're trolling or not. suggested parrain's, a legit restaurant, and the mall of cortana that has nothing but baby clothes and running shoes.

You've gone too far. We are not trying to kill him, just get him shot.

Everyone in this thread has been full of shite.
I think it's a real juvenile dick move to do this to a visiting fan.

I would stay as close to campus as possible. The closer, the more expensive it will be.
There are a ton of good places to eat. Sammy's is a favorite for regular food and beers. If you want a higher end dining experience, hit stroube's.
The entire campus is tailgating, but the nicest areas are around the quad.

Really, it all depends on how much time you have to bs. If you're just in for the game, get drunk and tailgate. Otherwise, give us some details and we'll help you out. When you coming in? Who with?

Cortana Mall?? WTF is wrong with yall? That place is a shite-hole. Mall of LA is WAY better and nicer
HiddenFlask - completely agree!

We mess with people because we get one of these threads weekly. Most just get good suggestions.
I do a search. Last thread was called "Vandal coming to town" should be easy to find. Had plenty of great tips on BR.

Warbird, most poeple have given you bullshite.
(Cortana is ghetto, north of florida is ghetto, plank road is ghettto)
For actual answers, There are some great places to stay for games but you must book early. Look into the new casino that is opening up in August, should be perfect for gamedays with a lot of things to do there.
While in town you should try and see mike the tiger, eat as much as possible (chimes, Parrains, Mike Andersons, Sammys), check out campus before gameday if you can (its really beautiful), and go for a run around the LSU lakes (coeds wow).
Walkons the night before the game would be very fun as well as on gameday after the game.
Tailgating is all over campus, some great places to check out are the parade grounds, the lots on Nicholson, or near the quad.
It is safe to drink anywhere on campus on gameday. As long as you are of age. Just dont bring glass, noone likes broken glass.
As for other useful information, be understanding of people "tigerbaiting" you and just go along with it. If you laugh, they will probably offer you a beer. Be fun and cool and no trouble will go your way.
Have a great trip.
