Gotenks and Super Buu in the time chamber would be another good one.

Yeah, I got ya. I was just correcting myself
That fight would pretty awesome.

That's a badass scene. Shite got so real, and I was filled with emotions as a little kid watching this for the first time.

This is why Vegeta is my favorite character. Dude was a cold blooded killer in the Namek saga.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 9:25 pm to Poxxxx says GFR
listening to all this, im starting to think Namek might have been better than the cell saga. cell saga always seemed like the no brainer best saga.
but Namek everyone was still pretty weak. Vegeta was outclassed, along with most of the main fighters. Vegeta was still seen as a villain but a necessary evil.
They faced countless attacks to which they were scared and literally fighting above their grade by a large margin. not to mention Frieza was probably the last "true" villain of the series.
shite, this is a lot closer than i thought.

Namek saga
I flip flop on this as well. Both sagas are great, and filled with action, drama, and excitement. 1a and 1b

2. Artificial Humans
3. Saiyan
4. Buu

I feel like most people who rank the Cell saga ahead of the Namek saga only do so, because Trunks, the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, and Gohan going ham on Cell.

I don't like how stupid powerful people started getting after Namek. The Buu stuff should've never happened.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 11:05 pm to Korin
I just wish we could have kept track of their power levels.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 11:14 pm to Poxxxx says GFR
I mean, they spent all that time building up Frieza and the Super Saiyan legend...but wait! Some old dude made some androids in his basement that are a billion times stronger! Actually, forget them, he made another android that has to absorb those earlier ones and is a billion times stronger than even them!

i would say after cell. people (at least imo) love it because future trunks is just so bad arse, Vegeta shows off his true pride and power, Goku isnt the hero, Piccolo and Tien have shining moments.
there really are a ton of great moments during that saga.
however, once cell ends things get ridiculous. kid ssjs, goku goes ssj3 not out of desperation but to show off. vegeta kills himself for absolutely nothing. gohan goes mystic but it gets ignored after and makes no difference really. the buu saga just "jumps the shark."
as for that avi, you should look up babe thread rules haha. it violated a lot of the rules on nudity.
eta: they shouldve had balls and left goku dead for way longer. yeah you can have him come back, but only once kid buu appears and all is lost. he came back waaaaay too soon. also wished they didnt turn gohan into a goon.

As far as story telling, I think that Namek and Saiyan saga are far and away the best two. Some of the things they did in Cell saga and even worse in the Buu saga were sloppy and just poor story telling, like what Korin just pointed out. They both had some incredible moments, but you really had to start stretching some ideas with them e.g. power levels and every fricking one going super saiyan.
Posted on 9/2/14 at 11:28 pm to BlacknGold
That's where it should've ended, with Gohan replacing Goku as the hero or whatever. I wouldn't go so far as to lump in the Buu stuff with GT, but it should've never happened.

yeah, killing Frieza was the true ending of Dragonball Z, imo. Frieza was talked up and didn't just pop out of nowhere.
Radditz led to Nappa and Vegeta who led to the Ginyu Squad and Frieza.
Not that stupid curveball Dr. Gero threw by not knowing the guys went to Namek but still making machines stronger than SSJs? It would have made a lot more sense having the androids have a power level of 30k or so. Twice as strong as Vegeta was on Earth.
But yeah, power levels became bullshite after the Saiyan saga ended. the astronomical leap from ~10,000 to 180,000,000 that Goku took...but he's a SSJ.
Piccolo went from ~4,000 fighting Nappa to 1,500,000 fighting Frieza...well he fused with Nail
Krillin was over 100,000 at the end of the Frieza saga. THE frick?

I wouldnt call Gero a huge curveball since he does have roots to DB. i enjoyed them delving into time travel and like i pointed out, the saga did have some great moments.
i wouldnt go so far as to say Buu shouldve never happened. it just couldve been done soooo much better. dont make trunks and goten ssjs, which wouldnt trivialize it.
another big flaw, imo, is the series completely undercuts every race besides saiyans. that really limits your characters and your stories. instead of Vegeta going Majin, what if they boosted a different character (maybe Yamacha) who was once important but fell by the wayside. Yamacha would have reason to go to the darkside with Vegeta stealing bulma and how worthless he had become.
Buu couldve gone in so many better directions. idk what the fan outcry was like at the time, but maybe people just wanted classic Goku vs villain stories that just dont hold up all that well.

This would have benefited the Buu saga greatly imo. I liked the saga for the most part, as it introduced us to a lot of background history in the DBZ world. It had it's high points.

To be fair, Toriyama wanted the Saiyans to be known as THE perfect warrior race. That's just what they were throughout Dragon Ball. I don't recall the Namekian race being undercut, but they're definitely a notch below the Saiyans. Frieza's race was very powerful also. (I don't believe their race was ever given a name?)

the Nameks were worthless during that saga. The series did a horrible job of keeping Piccolo relevant. He couldve very easily been another hero to lean on and had be a threat, but he really fell into the background quickly after frieza.
i understand the Saiyans are #1. thats fine. but you need something else to sustain story. this is why we got 7yr old ssjs, because they needed more relevant characters and it could only be saiyans at that point.
this also goes against their own history. frieza AND his henchmen looked down on the saiyans as a race. there were once a large number of races that were stronger than the saiyans. i have no issue with saiyans being #1. it just happened too fast.

Piccolo handled Frieza in his second form. He wasn't strong enough to keep up in his third form, but he was relevant at that point. Then he really became relevant again when he beat the shite out of Imperfect Cell, and matched Android 17 blow for blow. Even if it's only one Namekian, it shows that they are, and can be a very powerful race.

I get that you'll always need more as the story goes along, but I don't think this is why Trunks and Goten were made into Super Saiyans at such a young age. Toriyama could have just made up a new threatening race, and ran with it.

I certainly agree that some of the ssj stuff happened too fast. Aside from that, many races may have been stronger at the time, but didn't have nearly the capabilities or potential of the Saiyans.
