At the risk of derailing this thread.
Are you left or right handed? Should be determined by finding out which is your dominant eye, for best shooting results. Some without much experience prefer revolvers (they seem simpler to people, are reliable, possibly more).
You can get a pocket gun later, don't let whether the experience is pleasant be derailed by shooting a small gun which increases perceived recoil.
A Sig P236, P239 are hard to beat, but if left handed the safety is not "ambi" from factory. I would recommend a 9mm, ammo less expensive (more practice), "+P" is enough except for those who are in the "45acp or nothing" camp. A Springfield XDM is a great gun, great shooting, better than Glock in that it does not rely solely on trigger safety. Those are a few ideas.
Get the LCP, etc after you have practiced and enjoy shooting with a full size gun, IMO.

Those full sized autos are harder to rack the slide on. As gmrkr and I said, a wheel gun may be a better choice.
