He has his degree. They need to retire his number.

On April 28, 2011, the LSU College of Education honored LSU and NFL legend Y.A. Tittle as a 2011 Distinguished Alumni. LSU quarterback from 1945 to 1948, Tittle was drafted in the first round by the All-America Football Conference and played for the Baltimore Colts. Determined to finish his degree, Tittle returned to LSU in the off-season and completed his bachelor's degree in health, safety and physical education in 1950. The College of Education recognizes Y.A. Tittle as an inspiration to student-athletes across the country to follow his example of dedication to education and excellence on and off the field.
