re: A moment in Saints History that pisses you off (no 2012 issues)

some good stuff in here, for me I get a lot more pissed off about organizational decisions over specific games and performances. Those game scenarios are more disappointments than pissoffs to me. Haslett sticking with Brooks is a good example. It was bad not because of the smiling clown QB himself but because they would not insert Delhomme. Carl Smith was an abomination of a coordinator but it was worse that no one removed him. Conversely, Payton replaced his good friend DC Gary Gibbs. I submit if he did not make that move Payton might no longer be the coach here.
Okay, the history book of Saints folly is long and deep. I'm not gonna try and figure out which one is most but just some of the most prominent that come to mind first...
-destined to failure from before the start: expansion team Saints trade away a decent starting center, the #1 overall draft pick, and a 3rd & 7th Rd pick for Johnny Unitas' backup QB who had thrown 208 NFL passes. That #1, Bubba Smith was not HOF but did make some All Pro & Pro Bowls, he was a key element of powerful Colts teams. That QB, Cuozzo, couldn't even keep the starting job on an expansion team over a converted RB (Kilmer). 7TD/12INT later he was done in NOLA and never was more than a backup elsewhere for a few years.
Firing Hank Stram after 2 years. Some may quibble with this but I do think he was a brilliant offensive innovator way ahead of his time. Unfortunately he took over when cocaine use in the NFL was exploding into a major problem (the Saints might have been the worst of all teams)
Hiring Ditka- use this guy as a reminder of whenever the call is to bring in a "name" player or coach. I hoped but inside I knew this was not the answer. What friggin circus show without football substance.
Ricky Williams trade- I had no real issue about RW even with his psychological issues and eccentric self. He gained over 3000yds in 3 NOLA yrs even with injuries. The price of the trade was so outlandish I doubt if it will ever get off The Worst NFL Trades of Alltime List. At least when Mueller came in he traded RW away for a decent recouping of some value lost.
Benson and moving- no matter how you cut it he did at least entertain the idea. No greater foul could ever be imagined against any whodat lifer.
