I'm a huge documentary fan. Probably go as far as calling myself a documentary nerd. It's by far my favorite genre. In the past I've shared some docs that I enjoyed, and thought I'd throw out 2 more.
• The Sounds of Insects: Record of a Mummy- Slow moving documentary, but that's kinda the point. Inspired/based on a true story of a man found in the wilderness dead, who committed suicide by starvation. When found, he had a journal, where he recorded each day of his suicide by starvation. The narrator reads excerpts from each day.
I know what you're thinking, BORING. While not exactly action packed, it does keep your attention, and makes you wonder why someone would choose to die this way. I loved this documentary.
• Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles - I actually saw this movie before it came to Netflix, and really enjoyed it. It's a mystery doc, and the main character is a likeable nerd who really, really wants to solve this mystery. Without going into too much detail, it's about mysterious tiles with cryptic messages, that have been found on the streets of the USA & South America.

I haven't, but it's actually in my queue. It's a series, if I'm thinking of the one you're talking about, and I plan to watch it after I finish my rewatch of Battlestar Galatica.

Your first link isn't really a documentary.

It's what it is labeled on Netflix & IMDB, so I went with that. It's based on true events(as far as I can tell). I guess a narrative would be more appropriate. I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Actually, you're not that far off(ok, maybe a little). That's my favorite thing about this doc, it conveys his mindset. You can even tell, at one point, he's pissed off that he hadn't died yet

He initially brought himself a small amount water, but that's it. He also drank rainwater.

Can you go into a little more detail on this one (you can label spoilers if you have to)? Like did he find/figure out anything? I've read about the tiles before, but not too much is really known about their origin or meaning. I'd hate to watch a doc for an hour and a half and get nothing out of it.
Also, here is the trailer for the Insects one: LINK /
At one point, it mentions "day 17." That's a long fricking time to not eat.

SPOILERS
The main character does indeed single in on a single suspect, a reclusive man, that refuses to speak with him. The evidence is pretty strong it's him. The film does a good job of documenting each discovery, including how the tiles were placed, as they get closer to finding out who's responsible. I think you'll definitely come away knowing more than before. Also, you can really tell that the main character is genuinely infatuated with this mystery. Nerd excitement is evident

Preesh.
I'll prolly end up passing on this one. I saw somewhere that talked about this doc and what the verdict ended up being (about the reclusive guy you mentioned). I think I came across the tiles one day when I was mining info on Wiki and just kept expanding link after link. I think I was reading about mysterious, unexplained shite that day.

I'd recommend Senna. Based on story of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna
