I think the essential problem is that we are playing a very deep line defensively, pressing from the front, but when we get the ball, we are super slow in cycling it into attack. So in addition to having players who always want the ball at their feet, other than Giroud, who is at least willing to run, we give the opposition time to retain their defensive shape.

The truth is that we don't have the type of player who can succeed in a deep line counter attacking system, especially when our wide players drop as deep as they do to help out our fullbacks. We have the type of players that require compact shape, intricate passing, and a high line with pressing throughout the field.

Where do players like Ox, Theo, and possibly Gervinho stand in the counter attack? Those guys actually like to push the ball forward quickly, take on defenders, and attack the goal.
