Mesmer with a greatsword is hilariously over-the-top. One of the reasons I love the class, even if illusions could be a little more effective when you "detonate" them.
You just spam laser beams from your swordpoint at range. The farther away you are, the more damage it does.
I actually only played Ranger for a couple of hours during the last beta. I didn't notice a difference, but that doesn't mean it wasn't there. I did notice that in any given event, there were still dead pets everywhere. I can't speak to the competence of the players, though.

when is the next beta weekend? or when can I get a sneak peak? Or did the beta close for good and now we have to wait?

In consideration for the last class. I'm torn between Mes, Ele, and Ranger....and Warrior. What do I do. Haha.

The dead pet thing really bugs me, especially during WvWvW, I don't know why they just don't have a Summon Pet skill somewhere.
