that old piece of shite is almost as bad as Sandusky.
I can't go that far. He certainly fricked up 10 years ago, and being fired was the easy route for him, but based on what we know I'm not putting anyone else even close to the level of Sandusky.
Everyone at Penn St., that covered up for him should be prosecuted and that would include Joe Pa if he were still alive, but those crimes are not close to what Sandusky did IMO.

I stopped posting in these threads because of the retards that defended paterno saying what a great guy he was. He was a piece of shite enabler and nothing more...football be damned.

will be interesting to see if the NCAA gets involved...

By not reporting the incident, they made possible every molestation that occurred after 2002. By continuing to socialize and supply access for Sandusky after this incident, they very clearly were participants in these later crimes through their gross negligence and depraved indifference.
Yes, perhaps a bit of difference, but very little difference in moral culpability.

almost is a relative term but I know what you mean. I wouldn't doubt if the prostitution ring story had some truth

IIRC, there was also an allegation/incident in the late 90's involving Sandusky & a young boy at Penn St. With knowledge of that, how could you possibly do nothing in 2002? I'm not going to compare what Sandusky did to their silence, but damn their inaction on this was beyond fricked up.
Also, all those Paterno Patriots from when this first came out, are really looking like the fricking fools that they are. Seriously, how do you defend this:
quote:
"After giving it more thought and talking it over with Joe yesterday, I am uncomfortable with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble with going to everyone, but the person involved,"

I like how these Joe supporters claim that he did report it to his superiors and that was all he needed to do. Plus they argued he might not knew anything more than that incident! Now it looks like his superiors consulted with him and he knew way more than that incident in the shower!

I wonder what the current PSU football coach is thinking right now.

One of the many articles out there quotes Joe Pa as saying, in response to why he did not get more involved, that " I was confused. I didn't even know anything bout rape & males". I would have loved to have had him on the witness stand for cross examination by a prosecutor. He would have been made a total fool of.

They'll probably just burn the school down soon.

PSU is going to be on the hook for gross negligence in aiding child molestation. The ones that are proven to have known of this better be punised to the fullest extent of the law. No one involved with PSU over the past 15 years is above this scandal at this time.

He certainly hid behind his age a lot. Either he was lying or he was completely out of touch with reality.
Posted on 6/30/12 at 2:51 pm to 4LSU2
Always knew that they knew more. A 50 year old D-coordinator at PSU does not just give it up at 50. He is fired or gets a HC job somewhere.
KA-fricking-BOOM!!!
This is screwed in all directions. There are going to be some rich but emotionally scarred dudes in Pennsylvania in a few years.
PSU officials failed as humans, leaders, and risk management personel. Was there a risk mgmt lawyer in the loop?

I disagree.
Sandusky, as a child molester, was completely screwed up in the head.
These are normal people that knew what he was doing and allowed it to continue with more and more victims just to cover their arse.
That is equally as bad, if not worse, IMO.

Sandusky was loved on that campus, both as a coach & for his involvement with with his charity. He was the heir apparent, been there for yrs, but when it came time for him to "leave", the SID released a simple press release & Joe Pa released a very vanilla statement. No major press conference as a send off. Just 2 written statements. They knew what he was, Joe Pa for damn sure. So he continued to rape & abuse for ys more.

The Devil's Advocate response:
That tells you absolutely nothing about what Joe Pa's stance on the question was-- just how the individual writing that email felt after talking to him. Indeed, 'having trouble with what we agreed were the next steps. I am having trouble going to everyone but the person involved' is more indicative that the consensus had been (of which Joe Pa had been at least a part [even if you assume a dissenting part]) that they should go to the authorities and accused, rather than directly to the victim themselves.
For all that we can prove, Joe may have said 'Sandusky has always been a weird SOB. I have known him for decades, but this shite isn't kosher. I'm ready to string him up', taking his conversation partner aback-- and he just as easily could have said 'Whew. We should just cover this up, c'mon man, it could cost us millions.'
The key is what the assumption is that you make about the content of the Paterno conversation was. Without that context, no, you can't string up Paterno nor can you vindicate him-- its simply not possible to tell, without an assumption of significant proportions.

I have said since day 1, JOE PA HAD NO SUPERIORS AT PENN ST. He ran everything on that campus, especially anything dealing with the football team. That pep rally at his house was disgraceful!

Any of those hill billy backwoods fricks that participated in the pep rally should be beside Sandusky in prison, IMO. The mentality of the football program being holier than thou was the major contributing factor to many children being molested for many years.

I could buy that devil's advocate response. Now, that still doesn't explain Paterno's lack of response. An incident in the 90's, another one in 2002, then nothing is done until 2011. Clearly, this administration thought enough of Paterno to consult him before taking the next step.
