Just got a Five Guys here in West Monroe....talk about the most overhyped burger in history!! It sucks arse IMO, and the fact that people pay 10 bucks for a meal there is beyond hysterical....if I want a below average burger on the go, I'll just get a double stack from Wendy's....otherwise i grill my own. Count me in as a Five Guys hater that doesn't get the hype...but I expect the local yocals here in WM to get excited about shitty food!

1st off Five Guys started in the Arlington, Virginia which so known for it's food and "great" restaurants. The Five Guys by my house in Chester, VA just closed and believe me there is no competition here!

Serrano's is screwed. It sucks so bad.

I would eat at Serrano's from time to time if it were cheaper. Their enchiladas are not worth 14$

Lakeview

I live in Lakeview, and it's amazing how much has been done the past couple of years. There's no way I'd live in Old Metry over Lakeview, unless I could afford a place on the country club course.

Serranos has a great deal on lunch fajitas for $10 and they aren't half bad.

I love Lakeview & Lake Vista. Probably because I went to Mount Carmel . Gorgeous homes are being built, especially on Canal Blvd. I don't know why people think Old Metairie is the place to be; isn't that where the Uptown wannabes live?

So half a block off campus is a big move to you?

The funny thing about the new wave of "fast casual" restaurants - a morph between fast food and casual dining - is when the concept first hit, people were impressed because of the quality relative to price point and the dining experience would suggest.

Five guys could give you a burger almost as fast as McDonald's (same is true of Cheeburger, Fudruckers, and several others in the same class), but it's a better quality at a slightly higher price point.

People naturally overreacted because of their expectation of what fast food is. So now we're seeing the reaction to the overreaction.

People expecting 5 guys to be something made by an executive chef or Chipotle to be something more than it is will naturally be disappointed. But they are forgetting that it's still just fast food at an inexpensive price.

I think the model for this wave of restaurants is solid though: Up the food quality and the price point and people will react possitively to it, all in all.

The only thing Serranos has going for it is the drinks. The food without a doubt SUCKS Donkey cock, that is a compliment.

It's pretty simple: Old Metairie is in Jefferson and Lakeview is still Orleans Parish. Cost of living and taxes are a bit lower in Jefferson compared to Orleans.

Regardless, Lakeview is a great spot and that stretch along Harrison has developed really nicely over the past 7 years.

All my New Orleans buddies lived there before Katrina, my grandfather lives there, and one of my good friends were one of the lucky ones during Katrina and didn't have their house destroyed because it was on the street across from the levee and raised up enough. I'm quite familiar with the area and it's just not for me.

Where did I say that? I said any increased commercial activity in the area is a good thing. Nothing more.

I went in Chipotle (the new one in question) today and they were passing out coupons for tomorrow's (6/25) "test" run from 11-1. I'll be there. Don't know if it's just going to be people who stopped by and got coupons or anybody.

The area between LSU nd Dtown has a lot in the works.

Man, I can't tell if there's something brilliant in the works or a clusterfrick reading that. Nobody seems to know what the next guy is doing.

I'm all for it, but you have to wonder how well thought out it is.

Problem with the Mexican Subway joints are that they AREN'T a cheaper option than a Mexican joint. There are plenty of Mexican restaurants in BR with lunch specials $10 and under. Chipotle/Qdoba/Izzos are the same price.. and honestly I think their food sucks.

Then again, I HATE HATE HATE "fresh cantina" shite. I want dirty Mexican food made by Mexicans.

If you aren't Mike da Tigah's alter then perhaps you should exchange email addresses and then you can both go hang out on the St. Ann's area of Bourbon St. and suck each other off. That way you'd be in a city where you enjoy the food and you could get a free appetizer.
