What are your intended uses for the kayak and what is your budget? In South LA, unless you plan to paddle long distances for fun (5+ miles at a go), I struggle to imagine a scenario where a sit in would be better.

If you're more interested in the paddling than fishing or will be fishing primarily in rivers and small ponds, I would lean heavy towards a canoe/kayak hybrid like the Native Ultimate, the Old Town Discovery 119 Solo Sportsman, or the Old Town NEXT. Those 3 are all great paddling craft that are lightweight and easy to handle. They also have comfy seats and can easily be fished or hunted from if you'd like.

If you want to do a full dive into kayak fishing, a fishing designed sit on top will come with lots of bells and whistles that are engineered to make your fishing experience better.

That being said, if I had to pick one craft to do everything in that I do (kayak fishing rivers, large lakes, small ponds, and duck hunting from my boat), it would be one of the first 3 I mentioned.
