"The Arena is now 13 years old, suite renovations, restroom renovations, modifications to the two club lounges, we'll have a new club entrance on the east side," said Thornton.
There will also be a new Arena entrance. "We're talking about reorienting the way people enter the building and possibly putting a new Arena lobby on the exterior portion of what is there now," said Thornton. Improved VIP areas including new loge box seating are also in the plans. "It would be similar to sort of a theater box," said Thornton. "We would probably put that on the east in-court side in the lower level, the plaza level, probably 150 to 160 seats where you would have a private area with a television monitor. It would be catered." There would also be new exterior video, lighting and signage, similar to the Superdome across the street.

The contract for contraction of the improvements is expected to go out for bid in January and work is expected to begin after the Hornets complete next season. "We would work throughout the summer and have it ready for the following basketball season to reopen and then we would do the same thing again in the second off-season," said Thornton.

I'm of the thought that this money should go toward renovating the Alario center.

When it comes to arena's, NOLA is about middle of the pack which is fine I guess. But when it comes to practice facilities, we likely have the worst.

Correct. I wasn't clear. There will be a new practice facility (no more Alario Center) and the Arena will be renovated. Good times.

Great news for fans like me that attend games. I wonder if Stinger Wings will get the axe because of this. My fat friend Brouphy would be pissed if that or The Foul Line didn't stay open.

Like the $50m is going into a hole . . .

This is to make money. Let's say the $50 keeps the team here for 12y. The tax rebate deal is basically a break equal the the taxes on the players salary (so the team gets that as a discount). The teams 150ish employees all make decent cash and pay income, state, and property tax (likely directly or indirectly, unless they live at home or are not the primary bread winner). Then there are the indirect jobs such as ticket takers, etc.

I'm working the details, but it takes time to get right.
