Who here has been on a guided hunt for snow geese in the north and if you used a guide, who did you use. If DIY explain.

I hunt snow geese hard down here in LA. I'd love to go up there one day.
I've heard good things about Northern Skies Outfitters. Have thought about going by myself but securing a hunting spot is the biggest part of success and I'd like to go with someone my first time.

Myself as well, Thornwell area. I've never killed snows in massive numbers before. That's my main attraction.
To secure a field, bring lots of fresh shrimp and boudin, find the geese, find the farmer/owner of the field, knock on door and ask politely to hunt. If yes, before the hunt bring the farmer the peace offering and after the hunt offer one or two cleaned birds. You'll have a free lifetime lease. I did this in Oklahoma, worked perfectly.

I killed my first banded bird, actually a ross' goose of all things, within sight of the rice driers in Thornwell.

thanks
I guess you could say I target specks, but I put out snow spreads a lot of the time to do so. Learned a lot last season and hopefully can put it all together this year.
Might have to make a trip up one spring and lay the hammer.

I hunted them in Nokomis,Saskatchewan (Canada) back in 07. We used a disc player with stadium speakers(4) scattered throughout a spread of 600-700 rags and 3d decoys. The geese are definitely not as timid and it was the fastest action I have ever been a part of by a long shot. There were times when we actually had trouble keeping our guns loaded. I have pics on my home PC that I can post. This all happened in a cut barley field that we saw the geese using the day before. I was with an individual that invited us up not a guide.

Wait till around 6 and I will deliver. We had so much action that a friend started taking pics over our shoulder with a fancy dancy camera. I have pics of geese in flight then pics of feathers boiling out then pics of geese crumbling to their death!
The canadian that we were guest of said he had never met a group that enjoyed killing waterfowl as much as we did. I told him there were thousands of us back home!

I went hunting twice when I lived in SD, didn't use a guide, we knew a guy with some fields that let us hunt...bring extra padding for your shoulder.

We go every year to St Joseph Missouri for the snow goose conservation hunting. Always six hunters with a guide and works out to be $125/gun per day. You can kill anywhere from 10 a day to 186-what we got in one day on last trip. We always go 1st week of March. Banded Gander outfitters

Try this guy for year-round waterfowling opportunities. Proven results with several destinations.
