I'm about to purchase a rifle and don't know which one to get. I have heard good things about both but don't know what to get or what the pros and cons of either Any suggestions?

30-06 out of those two.
7mm if you just want my general opinion.

270 of the two you listed. My next gun will be a 7mm-08

do you want six or do you want a half dozen
They are both great, but we are giong to need a little more info. What are you going to hunt etc?
in my opinion the model of the rifle would be more important than the calibre in this case.

Can you explain why you would choose either please?

Savage model 110 mostly for deer in Louisiana

Save your decision making effort for what scope to put on it, both are great calibers, I have one of each, Just be sure to put as much money as you can on the glass

both of those are good choices.
30-06 more power down range (slightly)
270 shoots flatter (slightly)

30-06 as a matter of personal preference. Both will get the job done.

30-06 gives you more power slightly and for the amount of flatness you lose compaired to the 270 I'll take it.
7mm is a beast and would give you the power to not only deer hunt, but go for elk/moose/gumps/tresspassers/rhino..etc etc

It's a toss up. Get whichever you think sounds cooler.

30.06
But then again which ever is priced better

Where are you hunting? Open pasture/shooting lanes, or in the brush?
I hunt brush so I use my 30-30 most of all my rifles. Open pasture, I like a .243.
If I were to choose between either, I would buy the 270, just cause

It's really a push either way. I like the 270 win, but that's just me.

Mostly lanes but possibly all three

Neither, the venerable 243/08.

Both are fine guns w/ high quality, readily available factory ammo. If shots are longer or in more open areas, I'd lean towards the 270; if shots are shorter or lots of hunting in thick woods, I'd lean towards the 30-06.
