You know an umps typical ball four call? Nothing. The strike 3 call is emphatic the ball four call is passive. The ump did what every ump does. Nothing.

Except when someone's stealing. Then they emphatically call ball 4. In almost every case.

Did he not? I don't know. It was a weird play all around but in the end called correctly. Unfortunately.

How does an ump emphatically call ball 4?

Bottomline is baserunning is a weakness for LSU. I have never seen a team get thrown out on the bases so many times. This play just sums up how bad the baserunning is.

Had the home plate ump made an emphatic ball 4 call, the Stony Brook catcher would likely not have thrown down to second, not wanting to risk a bad throw.

Suppose it was ball four, and the ump didn't make a quick ball/strike call and the SB catcher threw it into CF and Snikeris advanced to third? I am sure Stony Brook would have complained too.
