reguardless of hook quality this is why I don't use "crankbait rods". A slightly lower power rod than I'd otherwise fish (like say a M Fast rod for a 5/8 oz crank instead of a MH Fast) works just as well for me.
Although there are better graphite cranking rods (such as the one you mention) available now where the weight doesn't kill you, I still don't care for slow rods. Same goes when I fish for redfish and specs.
btw...cheap graphite inshore rods are a MUCH more economical option for freshwater cranking rods.
