pretty sure that UTA cant legally refer to themselves as UT. Louisiana legislature attempted to prevent a UL by allowing both schools UL but to be further identified Lafayette and Monroe. Lafayette folks, newspaper and school have ignored the law.

While true, this has no bearing on whether either can truly be named, "UL."

Very different, actually. I'm sure the Texas legislature does not expressly prevent any one university within that system from claiming flagship status, as does the Louisiana legislature regarding the UL System. Just saying.
