What other kind of advantage were you expecting?

It really isn't that confusing, and there is no point in being pissed about the high seed winners from day 1 getting a bye on day 2. There are 5 teams in each bracket so someone has to have a bye the second day also, and you can't give the top seed a bye two days in a row.

Some of the other alternatives are pool play and having just one single bracket double elmination tournament. Both of those formats are worse for various reasons.

Kentucky is essentially getting a bye in the first round then a bye in the second round.

The fact that the #4 team has an easier route to the #1 team than vice versa is a bit baffling.

The only way the top two seeds get a good draw is if the 3 and 4 seeds lose.
