For you, what is it?*

* I'll reply later, as I'm pretty sure of what it is, and if I'm not mistaken, it's waaaaaaaaay before what everyone is thinking. This revelation will meet with much debate for sure, but approval upon retrospect, as well. TIA

I hear ya. People are gonna hammer me when I answer, but one must really think before replying.

ETA Let me add 'seminal', as I already get where some people will go with my answer.

Sympathy for the Devil

and no, it's got nothing to do with the percussion.

Any rap song with the word "politesse" = not legit.

He is relating something, not really singing, the music drones on in the background, not extremely concurrent with the lyricism.

It is a beautiful song, and in many ways, a precursor to rap. There was absolutely nothing vaguely similar previously.

i dont wanna sound snooty here, but that's like saying man evolved from modern day chimpanzees

we both have a common ancestor but rap didn't evolve from rolling stones in the least

rap's been around for a long time. as long as blues or any other kinda music

obviously the drum machines and such came later though

my thesis is that the song was seminal.

aurally and reproductively.
