I think it should be 8 four team regionals, double elimination like the NCAA. Then 3 weekends of 2 out of 3 to decide the champ. It would take a month, one week less than the football playoffs.

maybe what's stopping that is that principals don't want teams to play on sundays if at all possible, and then they don't want the season going into june... also hotel stays are expensive

now the regionals could be just that, regional

using 5A this year as an example, top 8 seeds host as 1 seeds

then i'd take the bottom 8 playoff teams and put them where they'd go in the brackets as 4 seeds... teams 9-16 and 17-24 would go in based on geography. teams from the same district can play each other, but i'd want no more than 2 teams per district in any one regional

Barbe, New Iberia, Acadiana, Haughton
Zachary, Mandeville, Dutchtown, Live Oak
Sam Houston, East Ascension, Sulphur, Captain Shreve
Byrd, John Ehret, Ruston, West Monroe
Jesuit, Northshore, St. Paul's, Catholic BR
Lafayette, Destrehan, Hahnville, St. Amant
Fontainebleau, Walker, Denham Springs, Covington
Brother Martin, Comeaux, Rummel, Central Lafourche

4 seeds in my mind deserve to have to deal with long road trips, but the 2 and 3 seeds generally stay in their area of the state, with the exceptions of Haughton and Captain Shreve, but no district 2 team would have hosted, so they had to go somewhere...
