quote:he's definitely up there. i can't ever nail down a favorite. guy clark is probably as close as i can get to having a favorite. townes van zandt would be another one i personally would rank ahead of merle, but he's definitely in my top 10, maybe sneaks in to the top 5.

I don't check the music board very often. Moves too damn fast.
He flip-flops with waylon as the GOAT in my mind.

If I get on a Hank Sr. kick and listen to my entire playlist then he jumps up to my #1 spot, but Merle always drift back to the top. Waylon is a solid #3 for me.
I need to go drink some beer now.

I like hank sr alot, but he's never passed up waylon and merle. I doubt that spot ever gets touched unless jamey johnson goes on a 20 year spree of crashing the pop country industry and bringing it back down to the outlaw days.

when I saw the title, I didn't even look to see who the OP was.
I don't know if I'd say greatest, but then again I wouldn't know who to say is greater, either.
Maybe Hank, maybe Waylon, maybe even Strait.
Haggard definately deserves to be in the running, though.

I love his music, but I saw him in concert in Biloxi and it was the worst concert I've ever been too. I'm still kind of pissed at him for that.

I saw him in Biloxi bout 8 years ago, too. His show was a bit off, he even forgot some words to Okiee, but I just notched it up to him getting old.

Reminds me of when I was a kid going with my Dad to his cousin's saloon at Ramsay between Covington and Folsom. I like the Bakersfield Sound.
