It really is that close, we’re on campus and I see LSU students every day when I walk around,” Williams said. “I see the football players a lot and we’re all in the mix together. I’ve been here for such a long time that I do want to see something else. I’ve never really been outside of Louisiana so that’s why I’m so wide open in my recruitment. I’m going to go somewhere that suits me, not necessarily somewhere that’s right here.”

Here is a quote from an article on him I read. This is directly from his mouth. I still think he winds up at LSU but those last two sentences kinda worry me

Sounds like he just wants to see other places, nothing wrong with that. I'm not worrying about this kid at all

His top two are LSU and Bama for sure, but I wouldn't count Miami out... He's always liked them, and a few Miami people were at Uhigh the other day talking to him and Coach Mahaffey

Saban got it covered bro. He'll give the nanny/babysitter/gf who helps with the kid a job in his athletic department. That way the kid can stay in the locker rooms with Tim and everyone is happy.

I think Beckwith will be this year's Devall. Much better fit for a 3-4 D, especially with his mindset of wanting to play LB. A lot of people on this board will bitch about it, but I wouldn't consider it a huge loss for us

This whole reasoning is starting to just be stupid. Mingo would be a LB at Alabama, he's a DE at LSU. He's just as productive either way and just as successful.

I hate that thought process too.

Seems like we hear this about somebody every year from LA that's a top recruit.

If we lost Mingo to Bama...do people think that would impact the program? Yea, it would. Mingo and Sam off the edge is probably one of the best duos in the country...

That has a huge impact on how our defensive gameplan goes...

One player doesn't make a university, blah blah but when you lose enough impact players...it starts to show. And Beckwith could be a impact player...

Mingo had 8 sacks and 15 TFL as a sophomore last year. Guy is a beast in our system. Sick of this stupid fricking "he's perfect for a 3-4" garbage.

Beckwith can't carry Mingo's jock. 2 entirely different levels of player. Beckwith is good and could be an impact DE for us but still isn't in the same league as Mingo. If we miss on Beckwith at LB then no big loss. At DE it would be somewhat of a loss because of depth but I think Patterson and Williams will do just fine. If we land Prevot as well then Beckwith is inconsequential.

If we just lost him and didn't recruit anyone else in his place yes, but that's not what happens.

Recruiting is not about who you lose, its about who you get. You are only looking at half the equation. We didn't lose Mingo, so you don't know who we'd have in his place. Its called the Fallacy of the Broken Window, but I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Do I have your permission to use this in the future? I promise I'll give you credit for it when I do.

Do you have any formulas, equations or theories that explain how 16 and 17 year old boys don't always think logically/clearly?

You may want to ask Bastiat, although it'll be tough since he's been dead for 162 years.

The Broken Window Fallacy is from Bastiat, a 19th century French economist/philosopher, I wish more people would use it

Is the poster I was responding to 16? I was assuming he wasn't and that's who I was talking to, sounds like you mean the players. Of course 16-17 y/old recruits don't think clearly, what I mean, is its not the end of the world if you lose 1 guy, because you can always get another. It sucks LSU did not get Landon Collins, but we got Corey Thompson instead. The differences could be marginally. The only position where not getting specific guy could hurt you is QB and you can really only tell that in hindsight. Who knows if he's going to be Cam Newton or Ryan Perriloux.

Yea, I thought it was "premium" info. Did he work for Scout or Rivals?

Make fun of me all you want, the point the guy freaking out is missing is that if we don't sign Tim Williams we will sign someone else. But he doesn't see it that way he's acting like we literally will just not have Williams and that's it.

Tim is taking his whole recruiting process slow right now. He wants to make the right choice for him and his family. He doesn't want to be another big recruit that makes a commitment and later changes his mind. As he's said in the past LSU will always be on his list no matter if it's a list of 10 schools or 2. He knows how great it would be to play here in front of his family and friends and has a lot of respect for Coach Miles, the entire LSU staff, and LSU as a whole. He wants to keep his options open and make the right move. I would say right now LSU is the leader with Florida State, USC, Bama, and Miami towards the back. Don't count out any of those schools although in the end I think he will end up at LSU. He's a great kid and is doing the right thing by taking the process slowly in order to make the right choice for him and his family. Right now he is focused on working hard in the weight room and improving himself as a player. Whatever school gets him is very lucky.

I agree that its not so much about who you lose but who you get. still, we can't consistently lose the top players instate. i believe we get williams. add in prevot and gilmore and the defense will be dominant for the next 5 years given the current talent at LSU. we have to maintain the d-line dominance.
