So he essentially has 1 more hire to make? It'll be interesting to see who that last coach is and what ties he brings in terms of recruiting.

Forrest sounds good, but Leonard seems pretty underwhelming if he's anymore than an admin, especially when you consider the money LSU was willing to spend on assistants
the admin spots are usually for young guys with little experience. I hope the third spot on the bench is for a guy familiar with La. Change of heart on Livingston. Maybe White or just keep Scott...

white, yes.
Scott, no. Hell no.
WBRZ adds this about Leonard

Leonard is more of an administrator type who helped with scouting the opposition and preparing travel plans and logistics for the team.

Scott's a good coach for the bigs. and the recruits really liked him. He's literally the only coach on staff I ever heard anyone talk nicely about

don't really care to keep the prettiest fat girl around from the previous staff. For all the raves some give Scott for his recruiting, his results were mixed
oh hells yeah...

Leonard’s background also includes serving as president and owner of his own advertising and consulting firm in Memphis.

that last spot should go to quannas or a quality bench coach (oney?)

flat top on scout says it doesn't look like white is getting the gig either. If this staff is made up of all UNT transplants I'll be pretty damn disappointed

Maybe the rumors of Oney are true, and Jones is setting it up to where the primary recruiting locations are:
Forrest - TX
Jones - LA
Oney - MS

im waiting for word from the 'but jones is awesome because he'll hire randy' crowd
Posted on 4/20/12 at 7:33 am to BilJ
It won't be all UNT guys. It's looking like a JC coach will come in. Someone said the JC coach would be bringing players with him, but I think that was just speculative reporting based on someone lurking the recruiting board.

i think pretty much everyone thought he was going to hire Livingston... me and you included

seems like johnny is setting himself up to be the main recruiter in state. probably will end up going with a former hs coach as a liaison/admin guy.
Posted on 4/20/12 at 7:48 am to Elleshoe
my only question about Forrest is the guy actually a good recruiter or someone who was able to reel in guys with grade issues that wouldn't qualify elsewhere?

I don't know if Oney is being hired or not, but he definitely qualifies as a "Louisiana guy" if hired.
From Louisiana, played high school basketball in Louisiana, was a high school head coach in Louisiana, coached at Grambling, Nicholls and ULM, played and coached at Ole Miss, coached at a Mississippi junior college. Not a bad resume.

If Johnny Jones can lock down the LA talent and these assistants grab a Dallas-FW area kid every year or two we will be in very good shape for the future. Just for reference some Dallas-FW area kids in the last 3 years (rivals 150 kids)... 2012 Isash Austin - 7'0 C ***** 2012 Macus Smart - 6'4 SG ***** 2012 Prince Ibah - 6'10 C **** 2012 Jelon Hornbeak - 6'4 SG **** 2012 Chris Washburn - 6'8 PF *** 2012 Zach Peters - 6'9 PF *** 2012 Chad Rykhoek - 6'11 C *** 2011 LeBryan Nash - 6'7 SF ***** 2011 Jamal Branch - 6'3 PG **** 2011 Antwan Space - 6'7 SF **** 2011 Cannen Cunningham - 6'9 PF **** 2011 Jordan Gren - 6'4 SG *** 2011 Devonta Abron - 6'8 PF *** 2011 Jordan Williams - 6'6 SF *** 2011 Jarion Henry - 6'9 SF *** 2011 Thomas Gipson - 6'7 PF *** 2010 Perry Jones - 6'11 PF ***** 2010 Tony Mitchell - 6'8 SF ***** 2010 Phil Pressey - 5'10 PG **** 2010 Rickey Scott - 6'3 SG **** 2010 Julian Washburn - 6'7 SF *** 2010 K.C. Ross-Miller - 6'0 PG *** Uh yeah...go get this talent please!

Deke Belevia loves the Johnny Jones hire so he will fail.

We settled for a head coach, why wouldn't we settle for assistants? Somewhere, CT has his feet propped up on a big wooden desk smoking a cigar and laughing with Dale about the coup they pulled using Alleva as their latest stooge.
