I would appreciate an answer to this as well.

The book is very good, but a long read. The movie is also good but moves alot faster and doesnt have as much detail. But it's like that with almost every book turned into movies. Also the book is set in the past, whereas the movie is in 2016.

The book is complete shite. Can't imagine that the movie's any better.

Thanks for this.
Just put it on the queue to check out.

Thanks. I added it to my queue and will try to watch it one evening this week.

Saw it in theaters...I know, I actually went to the theaters.
Keep in mind to lower your expectations. The acting is bad. Dialog is worse. They actually don't wrap up the novel- there are supposed to be several more movies but not sure that going to happen.
It sucked though tl;dr

Well as stated I never read the book so my expectations are of just watching a movie to be honest.
I'm intrigued so I am going to at least check it out just because the book was supposed to be a great read. We'll see. Thanks for the responses.

The book is good, but unnecessarily long. The same ideas are communicated in The Fountainhead.
Unfortunately, I have heard the the movie is terrible.

The movie is only for the types that read the ook & enjoyed its political/economic message.
I found the book awful & the characters & plot extremely over the top.

I didn't read the book
The movie was better than I thought considering all I heard about it was negative
Moves pretty fast and I'll be interested in seeing the second one

book is good; you can read 'anthem' however and get the same message.
and galt's 20 minute 'speech' is the thing nightmares are made of. my advice is skip those 300 pages of the book. seriously. i love ayn rand but i could not suffer through that speech.
i got it. collectivist bad, capitalist good. she does go on so.... ;lol:

The book is prophetic to the point of being scarey, but it still sucks. The 1st third or so is real good but then it gets repetitive. I'm up to the part where Dagney (spoilers)
...is getting a tour of the valley utopia after crashing her plane. I think the 300 page speech is coming up. I doubt I'll finish the book.

If you don't share Ayn Rand's philosophy, I doubt you'd like it.

the book is great ...but you are not going to sit down in an evening or two and read it ....its a time investment I read it about 50 pages at a time for however long it took
the movie considering the budget limitations and not great acting is still actually pretty good

The overall story is interesting, but the whoever wrote the script did a TERRIBLE job. The acting is also sooo bad.
The problem here is that most hollywood actors, writers and directors who are worth anything I doubt wanted anything to do with a story based on an Ayn Rand book. Instead we got the D list all the way around.
To be fair though Ayn Rand isn't the best author. She had a great macro idea, but she takes way too much time to get there and she isn't the best with making words interesting.

It is slow, but ultimately compelling imo

The movie was...ok.
I think it is worth watching, but I'm glad I only spent 1.50 on it at redbox instead of seeing it in theaters.
I've read the book, and I felt like I would have no emotional connection with any of the characters in the movie had I not read the book beforehand.
