The below quote comes from an article about New Mexico State coach Marvin Menzies, who is a potential candidate for the LSU job. Chancellor Martin hired him at NMSU, as well as his predecessor Reggie Theus.

quote:

"Marvin is certainly a viable candidate as is Reggie Theus. In all likelihood we'll pursue a candidate or candidates with Louisiana connections. Several have been the subject of initial consideration.
We will probably resolve our coaching situation by early next week. I hope Marvin stays at NMSU but he will succeed wherever he goes."

Bring Pokey back!!!1!

ETA: Seriously, Menzies wouldn't be a terrible hire but wouldn't really excite the fanbase. Hopefully he is a salesman.

Well, now I am positive that it is either Dale Brown or Shaq.

I would take Marvin Menzies in a heartbeat. Maybe Martin is throwing a smokescreen?

If this was Kentucky, the notion MIGHT be defensible.
As it is, it's stupid, insular and will lead to a continuation of our traditon of mediocrity in men's basketball.

This just shows they don't give a damn about the basketball program. They aren't even going after the best coach possible.

Saying anything other than " we're looking to hire the best candidate available" is worrisome.

Why is everyone so caught up on that sh*t?

Miles, Saban, Calipari, Coach K, Mack Brown...a good recruiter is a good recruiter anywhere they go.

Hiring a coach whose wife is from Louisiana, or who was born in BR but never really lived here, is a bit of a stretch to call them connected to Louisiana.

The only people who fit that descriptions are Jones, Floyd, Davis, Prohm, Ed Conroy. Am I missing someone?
