The disdain for Miles blows my mind.....I can't wait to watch nfl draft so he can show all these dumbasses how to evaluate talent.

I think you just reach a point in life when you gotta look at all the endless (and pointless) polls and lists and rankings and just say, "BullShite on it all!"

Sadly, I think you're right. By sad, I mean how their list hinges on that, and not how that day turned out.

Miles should definitely be ahead of Richt and Mullen.

So 1 game (be it worst or best) defines a career at a school?

Combine all of the coaches ahead of him - he has as many SEC championships since the coaches settled in at their respective schools and more national championships than the lot of them combined (excluding Saban, of course).

I'd say there is an argument for him as the 2nd best coach in the country...

A beauty contest and Miles isn't so pretty.

Here is Miles record vs. each coach..

1) Saban 3-3
2) Petrino 2-2
3) Spurrier 2-0
4) Richt 2-2
5) Mullen 3-0

Miles has won 2 SEC titles out of 3 appearances, and he has won 1 National Championship out of 2 appearances. He has this team stacked & ready to make a run at again, but yet he is the 6th best coach in the SEC. This man once again does not get the credit he deserves.

first of all, that's not even true about the BCS CG. Ohio St lost to Florida by a bigger margin and had less yds, their only TD was a kick return.

2nd of all, you don't get into the position to even be in the SEC, with the #1 team by being the 6th best coach in the conference, sorry.

Funny how everyone ridicules Miles losing some big games, but ignores say Petrino blowing a shot at the BCS CG with Louisville, blowing a big lead at Rutgers.

Spurrier and Saban back into NCG, n big deal, Miles does, lucky dofus.

fify, and good players does not make you a good coach. Going the whole championship game without throwing it downfield makes you a sixth ranked coach

he has good players. that doesn't necesarily make him a top 3 coach in the sec.

While I don't agree, with the coaching exhibition he put on Jan 9, this is going to be the perception of Miles until he wins the whole damn thing.

But can you really reconcile the Mullen thing? To me, that alone makes the list total garbage.

Richt is a joke. Uga and tech are the only d1 programs in state. Georgia is loaded with talent, and has 3 times the pop as la.

True, Mullen has zero business being near Les Miles. Mullen is a joke

Sure: In 1996 Florida was ranked #1, they lost at Florida State late in the season. They fell to #4. #1 Florida State was slated to play #3 Nebraska in the Sugar Bowl (This was pre BCS and the Big 10/Pac 10 and Rose Bowl were not part of the Alliance so #2 Arizona State was going to the Rose Bowl regardless). However, in the inaugural Big XII Champ Game #3 Nebraska lost to unranked 7-4 Texas allowing Florida to back into a Sugar Bowl rematch with FSU. After #2 ASU lost in the Rose Bowl to #4 tOSU, Florida was able to win the NC, which they backed into.

Last year, after losing to LSU, Alabama dropped to #3 in the BCS, they moved back to #2 after Ok State and Stanford lost. This is often called backing in, since they made it the title game only after other teams lost.

I've never heard anyone say SOS or Saban were lucky for backing into the NCG, but ..

In 2007 after losing to Ark, LSU dropped, we only made it the BCS CG after beating Tenn in the SEC CG and having Mizzo and WVU lose, backing in. People often site this as prove Les Miles is lucky.

lol, wut? How do you know a) what plays were called and b) do you understand that you can't throw downfield when the QB is getting sacked/running for his life?

Let me get this straight though : You go 11-2 win SEC W, 11-2 finish #3 in the country , 12-2 win the NC/SECC, 8-5, 9-5, 11-2, 13-1 with another SEC C and BCS CG appearance. Recruit the good players you have but one bad game plan in BCS CG and you are the 6th best coach.

But you go 5-7, 9-4, 6-6 with ZERO wins against SEC West teams not named Ole Miss and you are the 5th best coach?

The 4th best coach, who also has good players, has 2 SEC titles and 3 seasons with 2 or fewer losses in 11 years and no BCS CG appearances.

The 2nd best coach has Zero SEC titles and SEC CG appearances and 1 BCS bowl.

That makes senses
