I would first try to figure out what type of gun you want. I started where you are and wanted to build a m4 style carbine, shorter the better. I ended up going with a 16" barrel so I wouldn't have to do a permanent flash hider. After building the gun, which I love, I've gone back and bought another stripped lower to build a full size m16 style gun (20" barrel, full rifle stock). On the other hand, if I started with the larger gun, I'd probably be building the other now.

16" Bushmaster Dissipator barrel with the hidden carbine length gas block.

Congrats, Bro. I'm sitting outside with my baby (AR build) now.

You're going to find out quick that the positioning of that fg is counter productive. Nice BCM.

Yeah, while I am waiting on pmags to get here I have been experimenting with where to put it. since that pic, the light moved the right side and mvg is farther forward.

Thanks for the info, I am leaning to the 16". That's a very nice looking gun you have built. Will soon be ordering my lower parts kit, so hope to be updating soon.
Also if anyone is looking for videos in YouTube, the ones from ITS tactical are very good.

Little over $1000 with no optics. Didnt really put too much time into it since the upper and lower were complete. I changed out the trigger guard and grip on the lower but other than that I just slapped the 2 halves together. hour or so...

16in middy's are really popular right now.
The build I'm working on right now though is going to be a 16in carbine with low profile gas block and a specter length rail. I perfer the look of having the gas block completely hidden.

with no optics, the bcm can be had for 1k or so if you go with a cos blem lower. That is cold hammer forged, all chrome lined, MPI for defects, mil-spec grade steel, etc..
really no reason to buy a cheap, inferior rifle for $700-800 considering what you can get for right at $1k.
