Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm the closure of Zipper Interactive, a Seattle-based internal game development studio that has been part of the global development operation of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS). The closure is a result of a normal cycle of resource re-alignment within SCE WWS. Zipper has completed all work associated with its most recent project, Unit 13 for PlayStation Vita. Zipper titles MAG, SOCOM 4 and Unit 13 will continue to be supported, including the new Daily Challenges in Unit 13.

SOCOM II HD still appears in my dreams, even without Zipper I still hope that happens.

On one hand it's a sad day for Socom fans. On the other hand, good frickin riddance.
Sad that the dream of seeing another real Socom died today. But zipper absolutely ruined what Socom was with Socom 4. While it wasn't that bad, the game was missing alot of key ingredients that made Socom special. Instead of listening to their supporters, they tried to cater to the COD crowd and went in a direction they thought was best, when clearly it wasn't.

Exactly! I remember being ranked in the top 1,000 for socom. It was the most addicting shooter Ive played. Stopped at 3 cuz I could feel the drift away from what made socom...socom.

Which SOCOM was it that first had the ability to give commands through a headset?

I see at various places, this strange hate for MAG.
Fricken brilliant game. Had way more fun with it than COD, or SOCOM back in the day.
Hopefully future developers use some of the coding from MAG, when it comes to massive ammounts of players. It ran surprisingly well with hundreds of people playing.
