Have you had any issues with it? I know they have susposedly changed the recoil springs because of stove piping. Anyone have problems? I was looking at the 19

I have 3.... a 26, 19 and 34. I've had a couple of stove pipes in the 34, but it was out of one box of ammo so I think it had a few bad loads in it. At the time, it also had the older style ejector and since being replaced it's been fine. I've put around 1500 rounds through it. On the 19, I had a couple in the first 200 rds, but I now have around 700-800 in it and it's been good to go, so I think it was just a break in period. My 26 hasn't had the first problem, but they didn't change any recoil springs in the subcompacts. My advice if you get one, would be to buy some hotter ammo to run through it for the first hundred or so rounds.

i have a 26 and the main thing that i noticed that they changed from the 3 is the checkering on the grip, the gen 4's checkering is much better

I have a 23. Had it about 2 months. I like it a lot. Havent had any problems and put about 300 rounds through it.

Some speer lawman 124 grain, or general 124 gain NATO ammo, or even some personal defense 124 +P stuff. I was nervous buying the 19 after reading a few bad things about the gen4's but I think 90% of it is internet hype. I really believe most of the guys with complaints are the result of operator error.

Do you use the extended grip magazine on your 26?

generally no. I have 3 mags and one of them had the extension on it.

yes... .40 cal. Only had it for about three months. Shot at least 500 rounds so far with no problem. I clean it after every range visit.

did you start out shooting hotter ammo during the break in?

I do. The original recoil spring was stiffer and actually resulted in even less recoil. It was changed due to people using lower powered ammo to train/target shoot. This caused the stovepiping. I believe the old spring was stamped 03. The new spring is stamped 04 like this one:
Neither should give you any problems with duty load rounds.

For what it is worth I'm about to contact Glock and see if I can get a stiffer 03 stamped spring for my duty 17. Quicker follow up shots. Our training ammo is the same as duty minus it being FMJ.

I've looked over a few different pistols, my cop buddy recommended the glock (plus he's getting me $100 off sticker). Also going to have the wife and my teenage son shooting. The glock 19 seemed like a good choice for them. easy to operate and smooth trigger pull

The 19 is a fine gun. My roommate has one.
I plan in getting a 21 sometime in the near future, for no other reason than I want to make giant holes in the target.

IMO the 19 is one of the best combat handguns made. It's fairly inexpensive, small enough to conceal, but large enough to shoot comfortably and holds 15 rds. It's also really accurate, the parts are easy to get a hold of, and just about anyone can fix one. I carry my 19 daily.

I just bought a gen 3 glock 19, to be honest you are really paying about $90 more to have different backstraps. If the glock feels fine in you hand why pay extra for the back straps you won't use anyway?
Just something to think about. Also the 3rd generation is probably the most tested modern pistol, the 4 has had a few issues. Again why pay extra for a gun that is slightly less reliable?

I'm left handed so being able to switch the mag release was an advantage for me. Also, I paid the exact same for a gen4 as I would have for a 3rd gen. I do agree that the gen3 glocks are among the most proven guns ever made.
