off yourself you inbred douche. I'm a conservative and never one to cry racism, but when i see a comment like this, I know it comes from an ignorant loser who marginalizes the victim of a senseless crime because he was black.

All I know is what I've seen in media coverage. Given the above, here are the "facts".
Trayvon Martin was wearing a hoodie.
Zimmerman (shooter) was on neighborhood watch, carrying a licensed gun.
It was at night.
Martin was headed to his Dad's girlfriend's house carrying only candy.
Martin committed no crime.
Zimmerman thought Martin was "suspicious".
Zimmerman was not in fear for his life.
Martin was on the phone to his girlfriend and
was (second hand information here) screaming and
running for his life.
Zimmerman shot him dead.
Florida's "Stand Your Ground" law may preclude Zimmerman from prosecution under the state law.
The Federal Government is involved, possibly due to the suspicion that the killing may have been a hate crime, but since Zimmerman is also a minority (White and Hispanic) this may prove difficult, since it doesn't fit the "white (only) on black" hate crime model.
Based solely on the above it appears that though an immoral killing of an innocent person occurred, it may have been done legally.
Crazy.

I think it's good that people are bringing awareness to the story so that more information will (hopefully) come out. I just think it's weird that him wearing a hoodie has become the rallying call for support and awareness considering that him putting on his hoodie was part of the reason he looked "suspicious."

I think that's partially why they are raising awareness about this. Just because you have a hoody on, does not mean you are doing anything wrong.

i think its safe to say that if trayvon martin was named johnny williams and was wearing seer sucker, all the people trying to play the incident down as if Trayvon had it coming would be calling for zimmermans head. The only difference is it was a black kid wearing a hoodie, so they dont care

That's the exact reason it has become the rally cry.

Yea, but it doesn't matter your race, or if you're in a gated community or not, if you're walking the streets at night with a hoodie over your head, you're going to look suspicious. That's just the way it is.
ETA: I'm not saying what happened was deserved or that they shouldn't be raising awareness. I just think the hoodie angle is the wrong way to do it...but to each his own.

It was raining outside at the time so should you not cover your head just so people with prejudice don't think they're about to get robbed?

Not sure if anyone mentioned it yet, but I don't see Mike Miller in that picture.

But the article on espn says they took the pic at the team hotel in Detroit and miller didn't travel with the team due to his injury.

Yeah. Mike didn't travel with the team because of his ankle. So he couldn't have been in the picture with the team.

Oooh. I feel he milks half his injuries, but he showed up in the playoffs last year.

Horse shite, what makes this guy different from the black guys just like him who got shot by other black guys just like him in the last week? Nobody is marginalizing shite, this is a big national story simply and ONLY because of the races of the people involved AND the fact that the races (shooter and victim) were the configuration they were.
How come black on black crime victims are "marginalized" every other God damned day of the year? They don't count?

nah, he doesn't milk his injuries. He just plays hard and isn't as young as he used to be so it picks up injuries a lot, recently at least. He ends up on the floor every other possession it seems, just ridiculous. Hell, in the playoffs he basically played without thumbs. It's no coincidence he's shooting >50% from 3 this season, while last season he shot mid 30s.
I think the difference this season is the Heat have some extra wing depth. So if he isn't 100% there's no reason for him to play.

Well shite.
Stand by my previous statement though. Hoodies = never look good.

What are you guy's thoughts on the Heat taking this photo in honor of Trayvon Martin?
The Heat can do whatever they want to do.
At the very least, a 17 y/o NBA fan in their state was gunned down on the sidewalk with skittles and and iced tea. There's nothing inappropriate with honoring Martin.
I support their right to do it and glad to see them them take an interest in what's going on.

No, it's a big story because a 17 y/o unarmed teenager was murdered by a 28 y/o on the sidewalk and the murderer has not been arrested or even questioned beyond what happened at the scene and the police have have done a horrible job explaining the situation and their actions.
Again, unarmed kid murdered in public with witnesses. Cops seem to not find it worth their time to investigate the known murderer.
The race issue kicks it to another level, but the stunning situation is why it's a news story. Plenty of murders happen, but usually when the killer is know they are at least investigated.

He had to have surgeries on both his thumbs last year, not sure there was much milking there.

I must live under a rock. I just started hearing 'hoodies look supicious' about a week ago. Maybe it's different in the north. November - March, if I'm not doing anything important I'm in a hoodie. At least I know if I ever go south to leave the hoodie at home so I don't get shot.
