Lakefront dining near Covington

Said I was not going to do this, but here goes my first (and probably last) post on TD. Going to be in Covington for a couple of nights later this month. Mrs Seaside wants to eat at a nice place overlooking the Lake. Been a long time since were were in the area. What says the F&D board?

Yep
Now answer the GD question

Covington is not on the lakefront. That would be Mandeville or Madisonville.
Barley Oak is the only place I've been to. And I didn't really care for it.
Stick around. Don't be a pussy.

Fixed it. and BTW, I know where these places are and was trying to make it relatively simple.

Friends is on the Tchefuncte River, not the lake.
There are a few restaurants on the lake, but none of them are really that great. But if you insist, try The Lakehouse or Rip's.
My advice: Hit up Nuvolari's on Girod Street in Mandeville, and then wander over to the Barley Oak on Lakeshore Drive for drinks after.
You'll thank me later.

Rip's on the Lake
Barley Oak for beer and atmosphere
The Lakehouse Restaurant
Friend's in Madisonville (along river)

Rips is pretty good, though service can be slow.
Barley Oak is good for drinks, but on the pricey side.
Nuvolari isn't on the lake, but it's a solid choice.
Juniper isn't on the lake, but close, and it's fantastic!
DO NOT GO TO Friend's. The food is mediocre at best and it's far too expensive for the quality of food.

Sucks too cause it has great atmosphere. Also, the Lakehouse has good wings shrimp tacos etc.

They've regressed back to suckiness, so I've heard.

I had a softshell crab entree a few months ago and it was $20 and better than most in NOLA.
Their crab claws in beer butter sauce is great too.
It isn't Commander's but I think the food and atmosphere are nice.

Maybe their food has improved since the last time I was there, which was years ago.

I worked in Slidell for a while and we had lunch catered every day by Lakehouse. The catered food was way better than I expected it to be. But I have never eaten in the retaurant.

Rips on the Lake is pretty good but it's not he best. I like Morton's in Madisonville on the Tchefuncte. It is a casual, fried seafood restaurant and it is better and not as expensive as Friend's.

I've had Lakehouse catered food as well and it was quite good. Never eaten in-house though.

Lake house is very good
Rips is good
The water st bistro in madisonville has a very good crab cake salad and gumbo.
Mortons sucks since it became home for St Benard nation since Katrina
