The second our long snapper screws up and it's a game changing play, Thunderbird would be here bitching about les not recruiting such a "useless" position

Where did I say anything about it being a useless position? Overreact much?

I simply said it's dumb to chase off an OL commit when you have a long snapper (Who likely would have paid his own way for 1 semester) too. Long snapping is obviously a very important part of the game and you look stupid when that guy screws up, but my point is pretty simple - who needs to be here earlier at LSU training? An offensive lineman, you know, the guys who need strength and conditioning probably more than anyone on the team...or a long snapper who can literally come right in and do 1 thing the same way every time and doesn't NEED to get bigger/stronger/faster...just needs to get timing down right and comfortable with punter/holder. You tell me, what's more difficult, and before you try and tell me the intricacies of this and that with long snapping, I was a long snapper back in high school ball. It's not hard to get timing down at all, just takes a short time.

I read somewhere that coaches evaluate the time it takes the ball to get to the punter. At the various levels (high school, college, pro) that timing obviously has to get shorter. Ferguson's snap time was on a professional level while still in high school - at least that's what the scouting report said on him.

It is nowhere close to dumb if you think there is risk in losing the one you ask to wait until fall (which we know was possible because of Miller) and you expect Reid to start (which you said yourself).

You have to go with the guy that you think you will need this coming year. If you don't and you lose him, then you have a real problem that can't be fixed and could cost you games.

Your logic seems backwards on this one.

I love this line of reasoning. Sure, let's just ask the kid's parents to cut a check for $10,000 that they didn't save or plan for. Never mind that as a non-scholarship player for that one semester he'll also have to pay for his own dorm, food, books, fees, etc. I'm sure everybody in Buford, GA is OT rich.
