Judging from the first picture I was sent of him he probably didn't know any better. He looks like a pow pow that was out trying to catch diner.

Just curious, what's your cutoff on what you would keep (to clean) and what you would release?
I've never caught a fish I deemed too big to keep. But my biggest was like 2.5 lbs so....

I caught my biggest the other weekend (6lbs) and I wanted to eat the frick out of him but decided to let him go.

I rarely keep any bass to eat. I try to fill my freezer with enough crappie during the spring to last for the year.

I'll keep the hell out of some bass. Not sure how big it would have to be for me to let it go though. My dad would be like WTF if I ever let a bass go because it was big

My dad caught a 9-15 and an 11 in the same day. He took the 11 to the taxi and filleted the 9-15. That was in the late 70s though, he lets them go now. He'll keep 2-3 pounders all day.
I just prefer crappie to bass, but if I'm low on fish I'll keep bass that are less than 4. The ones I've eaten that are bigger than that didn't taste as good.

If im trying to catch enough for supper... I don't keep "tournament fish"... Any fish over 3lbs. If I caught something 10+ I would take pics and measurements, let it go and get a replica made. No point in killing a big fish like that
Posted on 2/29/12 at 5:02 pm to The Sportsman
Yea replica is definitely the way to go
Posted on 2/29/12 at 5:03 pm to Boats n Hose
It's expensive though. Everyone was hating on the replicas a couple months ago.

He's got lifeless eyes. Black eyes. Like a doll's eyes.
I can't believe anyone cares if that fish is killed. She's not helping anyone by living. Highest and best use of something like that is the satisfaction of the person who caught it.

Ain't it cheaper than getting the fish mounted?
I'd do whatever's cheaper

Replicas cost more.... but in many cases states have programs that will pay for one if the fish is kept alive
