maybe the holdup is b/c Brees is the biggest name in free agency history?

No bigger than the Tom Brady and Peyton deals of last couple years. This is not unmarked territory... maybe for Mickey and Benson but frick... they have known for 4 years that this day was coming.

Its been a few years since Brady and Manning set the benchmark for contracts. Protocol says Brees should set the new standard for top QB contracts so I'd say it is unmarked territory. Yes they have known this day was coming but I'm sure they weren't anticipating the amount of money they would need to shell out to keep 3 of the best players in the league.

This is my biggest problem with this whole scenario. Of course, it's difficult getting a deal done now that he's on the verge of becoming the biggest FA in history.

So, WHY WASN"T HE LOCKED UP LAST YEAR?????

Hell, as soon as the Super Bowl parade was over the front office should have locked him into a deal that would have guaranteed he would have retired a Saint. At that point he had already won a Super Bowl, taken us to 2 NFCCG in 4 years, and thrown for over 5,000 yards in a season.

What else did they need to know about the guy to lock him in to NO for the duration of his career? It's not like we made any big FA moves after that season anyway that would have made resigning and restructuring Brees less of a priority at the time. I know they were working on Pierre and Evans, but Brees should have been a much higher priority.

The front office did a great job making moves last year, especially given the lockout, but the previous offseason after the SB win was a complete waste.

They sat on their asses and now we're facing the consequences.

I still have hope that it can get done, but I am extremely frustrated by all of this.
