Question about co-signing on a credit card

So I am 24, and never had a credit card in college or anything, simply because nothing good could come from that. Now, I am financially stable and would like to get a credit card (nothing extreme, maybe $1K-$2K limit), but have been denied. It says my credit score is around 700, but that my credit history is too limited to give me a card.
The problem is, a secured card is logical, but will be more of a pain in my arse than anything. What I would like to do is to get a credit card in my name, but have my dad co-sign on it, and essentially be the guarantor for the card. Unfortunately, I don't know if there is any bank that actually does this. Anyone have suggestions for me?

This is what i did:
Found a good low limit credit card for those with limited or no credit history (I went Capital one).
After 4-5 months, went to my bank where i hold my checkings/savings (BAC, Citi, etc) and asked IN PERSON for a credit card application and talked to a representative. I was approved for a 2k limit.
In addition my cap one limit has gone up as well since i've paid off my balance on time.
I can't stress enough how important it is to actually talk to someone when you're applying for a credit card instead of doing it online.

That's what sucks. I did apply in person so I kind of got screwed.

Definitely for your first one, after that, doesn't really matter.
My first CC was offered by my bank as "overdraft protection" for a checking account. This was during early college days, so admittedly it served its purpose a couple times. It was cheaper than a $35 overdraft fee though.
Maybe your bank has something similar? Do you have other types of credit? Not sure how you can have a 700 score and get shut down for an entry CC.

I am already on overdraft protection, as a line of credit. So this confuses me.
I have a small student loan, but that is about all the credit I have going. I just wish there was some bank that would allow my dad to guarantee the debt in the event of me not being able to make payments. To my knowledge, there isn't one.

You're basically in the same situation I was in out of college, minus the student loans. I got denied a couple of times so I just went to my bank and they let my mom co-sign a credit card with me. Nothing major, 1K limit and no rewards. Put a hundred bucks or so a month and paid it off. A year and change later, I bought a house with a 750 credit score.
